Where do companions go? : V

What topic said. Do my companions go to my owned house, or back to where I found them?
Thinking mainly about non-hired ones and dogs now.

Depends on the companion.

housecarls like lydia go to your player house, others just go where they come from, and the dog is roaming around I think.
