READ: How to hotkey items

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 4:54 pm

Step 1: Open your favorites menu.

Step 2: Mouse over the item you want to hotkey.

Step 3: Press the desired number key to hotkey the item. (keys 1-8)

I posted this because people are thinking you can't hotkey stuff.

I've seen a few people in the forum saying the game doesn't have hotkeys. ( Even the reviewers). I'm just helping out :D

Nice, good to know. Now, can anyone tell me if there is a way to hotkey various items to the d pad when playing with a 360 controller on pc? I'm cool if there isn't, as right now all the d pad does in any direction is open up the favorites menu, but it'd be cool.

I'm looking for the same thing.

It would make sense to let us at least hotkey 3 things with the available unused d-pad buttons.

I was admittedly one of the people complaining about the lack of hotkeys. I was trying to hotkey stuff from the inventory, not the Favorites.
In my defense, I still haven't found the manual for my Steam downloaded installation of Skyrim. But I'm a bit gunshy now, so I'm not about to cry foul for not having a manual. I just don't know where it is.

Sorry guys, I couldn't tell you because I don't use a 360 controller myself. :(
I'm planning on getting one though, so the info would be nice.

Fantastic thread

Glad to be of help. But you know, if people had actually read the manual, they would know this already.

Odd though that you can't hotkey from your inventory but have to do it from the fav menu. Makes little sense, so maybe that's the confusion.

I don't know why there's confusion though. I got the info from the manual.

For those of us that bought it on Steam, it doesn't appear to include a manual. Thanks for posting this!

So then if you remap your favorites key, you can't use hotkeys? That's not going to do at all.

Just like in Fallout 3.

I dont know what version of fallout 3 you played but in fallout you didnt have to go into your inventory, add the item to your favorites, then close your inventory, open your favorite, then add your items to your hotkey.

Maybe you are as unintuitive as the Bethesda devs if you honestly cant see how this cluster [censored] can be confusing. or at the very least, unnecessary.

So all that time I was playing without knowing that... Thank you, the Q button was getting [censored] pretty badly!

Reading manuals? HAH! I'm a man.

Thanks though, haven't figured this out. Maybe it's because I like doing everything without manuals.

There still seems to be the problem with not being able to do hotkeys and favorites if you remap your keys (I'm a lefty so I have to). If I reset the keys to default, I can map again. Weird and annoying.

I find that my hotkeys seem to unbind themselves. I use dual swords, and after is switch to my bow the sword hot key does not work anymore. It is slightly annoying, especially when you are in a fight :(

Q key not working here, I press it and nothing happens. And yes, I have some items and spells considered "favorites" in my inventory.
PC version, bought in Steam.

Nice, good to know. Now, can anyone tell me if there is a way to hotkey various items to the d pad when playing with a 360 controller on pc? I'm cool if there isn't, as right now all the d pad does in any direction is open up the favorites menu, but it'd be cool.

You can hotkey one item to D-pad left, and one to D-pad right, by bringing up the favourites menu and holding D-pad left or D-pad right on the desired item. The one on the left will have a "1." next to it, and the right one will have a "2." next to it.

It doesn't work that well with dual-wield items though. I have my battleaxe on D-left, and dual Shock magic on D-right; if I switch to dual Healing at any point, it gets confused and brings up one hand Shock, one hand Restoration when I press D-right. I have to press D-right twice to bring up Shock in both hands.

My brother has also had trouble with hotkeying his dual swords on 360. Hopefully it'll be tweaked in a patch.
