Hated Oblivion, Loved Fallout 3 + Morrowind - should I get S

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 6:19 am

Hi all, new to the forum and a bit of a casual gamer.

Was just wanting to get some of your opinions on Skyrim and how similar it is to previous Bethesda games. I loved Morrowind and Fallout 3 for the atmosphere both had - I also found them to be a decent challange and have very immersive worlds. However I thought Oblivion was awful, really bland and mundane with only a few of the Dark Brotherhood quests of any interest. Most of Oblivion felt like a chore and the controls/feel of the game felt awful, so was just wondering how similar or different Skyrim is to either of the 3 titles mention? (I'm an Xbox 360 player btw so can't download a demo)

Also, does everyone still have daily routines in Skyrim? Sorry but I found this, whilst realistic, just distracted from the fun of playing the game in Oblivion (where's the adventure in standing round 12 hours for someone to arrive home?)

Thanks all.

Yes, you should get it. It's closer to Morrowind whit Fallout 3 flavour, and a litle(numinit whit spelling) bit of level scaling (not to much, not too little). And yes it has radiant AI.

Yes. Skyrim makes Oblivion look like Superman 64. It is worth the buy and play.

I was in the same boat as you, hated Oblivion but loved Morrowind. If you regret buying Skyrim you can have one of my kidneys.

Yeah. Get it. it makes Oblivion look like [censored] - anything Oblivion actually did well Skyrim does better. And it also goes back to doing things more like Morrowind. And the atmosphere is way better.

It does do some oblivion-esque things I find annoying, like some levelled loot, annoying schedules for NPCs, levelled things you can buy from merchants.. but overall I had high hopes and haven't been disappointed.

I am a person who disliked Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 for a number of reasons (won't go into them here) - but am enjoying Skyrim immensely. It's been years since I've had this gaming itch. Go for it, the game is worth it!

EDIT: Get it for PC.

It is much better compared to Oblivion. Not as good as Morrowind, but also better than Fallout 3.

People still wander about and do their stuff. Don't expect to have lots of opportunities to shop at 2 AM... ;)

Atmosphere is great. Much less generic than Oblivion. Just think Bloodmoon Expansion from Morrowind + Dragons.

Thanks all for the info + opinions, I was just a bit reluctant that basically it was going to be Oblivion with nobs on - thankfully it sounds like it's far better than that :tops: (shame about the daily routines, but I guess I can live with it)

Glad to hear that it's more Morrowind than Oblivion, and if it's better than Fallout 3 then I'll be happy :)

Thanks for the kidney offer too! lol

Absolutely. This game is everything that was awesome about Morrowind with a Fallout 3 feel.

I loved Morrowind, i liked Oblivion and i love Skyrim.

I have not played enough to judge whether it will be classed as my favourite Elder Scrolls tilte at the moment that honour still belongs to Morrowind.

One thing so far is keeping me back from claiming Skyrim to be the greatest.. that is i cannot be sure that enemies in dungeons respawn after they have been cleared. If anyone knows for sure that they do or don't i would love to know.

I loved all the games mentioned so far. Fallout, Morrowind and Oblivion. Skyrim is better than all of them.

It's better than Fallout and Morrowind imho. So [censored] awesome. If there is one game to buy in CE, it's this one.

It's much better than Oblivion...get it.

While there is greater depth and atmosphere similar to Morrowind, that is where the similarities end. I say this not to deprecate Skyrim but to prevent disappointment for those who long for a Morrowind 2.

I would say YES, you should get Skyrim. I didn't like Oblivion and its atmosphere nor did I like its menu and character building system.

I loved Fallout 3 and its atmosphere and its leveling & perk system.

The character building system in Skyrim is even more open ended than in Fallout 3. Leveling + perk system works in a similar way. Atmosphere in Skyrim is amazing. And the menu's are much easier to browse through.

I feel like they've taken everything that was great about Fallout 3 gameplay-wise, and transposed this to a more gritty and gloomy fantasy setting than Oblivion. I love it.

Yes, its almost nothing like Oblivion. Ive been playing TES since Daggerfall, the most fun I've had since Morrowind. Plus I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas as well. Definently a must purchase Skyrim is.
