My horse can't reverse back up?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 6:09 pm

I get into a lot of trouble riding my horse, am I missing something?

Can Bethesda Softworks add the ability in a future patch, so you can reverse/back up your horse.

I like to look at scenery, so sometimes I find myself riding right to the edge of a cliff and look into the distance. But now I'm in trouble, I can't back up from the edge and if I try to turn away the horse runs a bit forward and we both end up on the bottom dead. But in general I find it hard to control the horse without the ability to at least back up.

Anyone care to comment on the mechanics of the horse?

I only have one thing to say about horses: Why bother? I can run faster and longer on foot :/

Have you ever tried to back up a horse in real life? Takes alot of training and even then it is tough and slow.

I use my horse quite a bit to gallop at full speed towards an enemy without spending my 'stamina/fatigue'. Then I jump off the horse and start swinging.

As far as the horse not backing up, I guess I never noticed this.

horses by nature do not back up. it takes years of training just to get them to understand the concept of backing up.... and usually they still wont do it on command. its just something hard wired.

Are you really using this as an excuse to explain away functionality in a *game*? If we want to go there I'll just say this: given the choice of backing up or falling over the cliff to its death, I'm pretty sure the horse would choose the former.

Yeah, I also had that what-the-* moment when I got my first horse. "Parked" the horse facing a wall, jumped out, did whatever I had to do, jumped back up, tried to reverse, and I see the horse trying to climb the wall to change direction. At least they could turn without moving forward too. I guess the horses in Skyrim are just dumb compared to the ones in Cyrodiil.

The description below imitates real life?

Keep trying, jcote23. It's just a bad implementation of this particular design. Can we stop making excuses for it now so they can do better next time?
