Xbox vs PC version

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 9:18 pm

I have both and I'm still trying to figure out which one to get. I do have a nice PC so I know, graphically, it will look better. Normally this would be a no brainer to me since I played Oblivion and Morrowind on the PC but I keep reading these posts that the UI and controls are absolutely atrocious on the PC. Just wondering is this overall true? I'm cool with going xbox if this is the case. I don't wanna have to fiddle around alot in order to get the game to play the way I want it to. Thanks for any feedback.

Just go to youtube and watch anyone's "let's play" for the XBOX version, then search for skyrim videos on the PC.

The choice should be 100% easier to make.

If you're worried about control problems just get it on Xbox, it still looks absolutely stunning.

Well, if you hate the PC controls, you can always pick up a 360 controller for PC.

having no problems with the UI that is just the minority that complain, the rest enjoy or are to busy playing skyrim you could just get a controller but i don;t even need it

plus you would miss outon the mods, (including the mods that can make a UI perfect)

PC version of course. Mods will fix anything (including the UI) wrong with the vanilla version and add everything you could possibly imagine.

Skyrim is a "Games for Windows". Meaning you can plug in your Xbox controller with a USB and play just like you would an Xbox.

If you've a PC that can run it adequately the choice ends there.
Any flaws that you may have to contend with currently (UI is a great example) will no doubt be addressed once the modding community can start working on the game.

You really can't judge the PC version at this point, for the same reasons you can't judge Oblivion's PC release versus its state now with community patches, mods and support beyond the official patches and add ons.

The UI's not broken or anything it's still useable it can just waste like a few seconds of your time over the course of a few hours when you click on the option above or below.

Or you could just use W,S for greater accuracy in menus.

I bought both. Played the Xbox for three hours on 10-11-11. Been playing on PC since then, running fine on an AMD 64 3500+ 2.21 Ghz, 4 megs RAM and an Geforce GTX 460. Soon upgrading to a new gaming rig so my xbox copy will gather dust until my PC dies or I am waiting for a new one!

Yes UI in PC leaves a lot to be desired but I am in no doubt that mods will solves these issues like in OB

Honestly I can only shake my head to those few people who are making such a fuss about some minor things (pc) that are not even anywhere close to being an issue if you ask me (I play on pc too).
The game is fkn amazing, gameplay is brilliant, lore is fantastic, graphics are breath-taking and I constantly find myself taking screenshots from beautiful sights. And then I read some people complaining about UI.. lol lol and lol.

I recommend anybody who has the option to choose between xbox/ps3 or pc to go with pc, the graphics cannot be even compared.
I`ve been playing for about 20 hours and there has been 0 times when I was disappointed with something.

If you just get one, get it for PC.

The UI isn't bad. Sure it was built around the idea of using a console controller. But it's easy to get used to and people are already working on modding the UI to address its shortcomings.

Personally, I cannot play first-person games, or third-person games that require precise aiming, on XBOX. The controls are just so primitive and unnatural compared to a mouse and keyboard. Especially when they neglect to include control inversion options for both Y and X axes.

Trust me on this, I was in exactly your position, with a reasonable PC (that can run the game on Ultra) and an Xbox with a nice TV.

To allay your fears, I actually find the UI to be fine; there's a few let's play of the PC version around on youtube, but the menus are easily and very quickly navigated using the mouse (to mousewheel / scroll up and down) and the WASD keys (to move up and down, equip, drop, sell, change quantities, etc). There are some menu options that apprently only use WASD, like the meters in character creation, but I honestly think anyone who goes as far to say it's a [censored] consolized UI is overstating things a bit.

But, if you for some reason favor never having to tap on a keyboard in your menus, you might be annoyed. Other than that, I found the menus to be very intuitive and organic, never moving my hands from my natural "game" positions (of WASD and mouse).

To be honest though, if you have no interest in mods, you might well just get the xbox version as it's basically the same, minus some of the high-end options (AA, ini tweaks for better shadows and the like).

PC = user interface is your greatest adversary, graphics are not half as good as Witcher 2.
Xbox = You get to relax in your sofa on a (hopefully) 40+ inches TV.

Guys, thanks for all the feedback. I probably won't find the UI or control scheme to be that a big of a deal I'm thinking but playing it on my couch sounds pretty nice too...lol.

EDIT: Oh and I can't forget the beer...cheers!

IF you do not want to use the numpad and you are ok with the WASD setup then you will not find it a problem, and the PC version looks and plays so much better.

You do realize you can set your PC up like that, even use a gamepad and all that if you like? Or am I the only one with a large TV I can hook my PC into?

I'm playing on PC, hooked up to my 46" LED LCD Samsung flat screen TV, sitting on my couch with an Xbox controller running though the $20 Microsoft Xbox controller USB receiver for the PC.

Get it on the PC! You can do the exact same as the Xbox, plus the options of better graphics and mods. Plus if you like the mouse and keyboard, you'll have 8 hot keys instead of 2 with the controller or Xbox.

PC = user interface is decent and perfect with mods, graphics are not half as good as Witcher 2 but even better then xboxs for both games.
Xbox = You get to relax in your sofa on a (hopefully) 40+ inches TV (like a pc can as well) and pay 6$ to one day get a red rings and own the worst of all 3 plat forms.

It's really whatever your personal playing style is.. if you like sitting back laying on a couch with a controller in your hands then go with xbox but if you prefer mouse and keyboard with the ability to install and create mods (something that makes the game much deeper imo) then choose the PC.

The UI is sort of a non issue at this point as once the mods start rolling out you can bet an updated interface will be one of them.
