A praise, a complaint

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 11:06 pm

Give one praise and one complaint (no more than one of each) for skyrim.

Complaint: spell system too oversimplified. You took out too many spells and made the only good groups destruction and Conjuration. They used to all be good.

Praise: excellent radiance story. This allows so mang people to have different games I could play this game a hundred times and not even two would turn out the exact same.

Your turn.

Complaint: Companions are glitching like it's going out of style.
Praise: Some of the best quest storylines I've seen in a long, long time.

Praise: Everything. The game was so well made, and so much put into it, and it's amazing
Complaint: Some glitches. The worst ones are the ones that are connected to quests and make it impossible to finish them.

Complaint: The PS3 version is unplayable and broken after saved data files (rapidly, I might add) reach about 5-6 mbs in size.

Complaint: I wish the Favorite/Hotkey system was handled differently. Just assign each direction to weapons, apparel, spells, and items.

Praise: Everything else. Amazing game is amazing. I keep coming back to the score, though. Best soundtrack I've heard in a game ever.

Praise: Dragons look and sound amazing when circling in the sky!

Complaint: This cluttered, eye-sore of a UI that makes sorting items that much more difficult.
Praise: The sheer amount of things to do, i've never seen anything on this scale before.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the engine.

Praise: Smithing is really fun and an awesome addition
Complaint: I'm really missing skills like acrobatics and hand to hand, see no purpose for their removal

Praise: It feels a lot more polished now, Oblivion felt like some haphazzard mod project and Morrowind was just generally [censored], Skyrim on the other hand feels like it had time and effort put into it to truly make it a wonderfully epic game.

Complaint: Lockpicking, maybe I'm just a god at this minigame but I hardly think so, it's ridiculously easy, there is no point in spending perk points in that skill. I've managed to tackle every lock difficulty with ease. So it's far too OP, it should be somewhat nerfed or something, cause honestly, being able to pick every single lock despite their difficulty level was not a good idea IMO. Sounds fine on paper but in practice it ended up as a pathetic joke.

Good: I'm loving the game. The engine and the systems, even the UI that almost everybody is hating is friendly to me. Some have complaint about "I can't see my character when I'm equiping him!". The answer were very simple. Put the third person view and do your stuff with the inventory. Actually the thirdperson mode was something I loved also.

Bad: Some bugs and glitches. And the mouse movement NEED to be refined. Really need! I do fast action and fast attacking. Very often clicking does not perform attacks, blocks or turns the camera correctly. It MUST be corrected.

Praise: The Dungeons are incredible, alot of them even feel like an in-depth mini quest (Take the "Dead Mans Respite" dungeon for example)
Complaint: Very buggy, had to create a new character due to a single glitch knocking out 2 full quest-lines that I can now not complete - Stormcloaks, and the MQ!

Hm, It's obvious from the the time I have spent playing that Bethesda put all they have into Skyrim. Any complaint I have really is just scraping the barrel. That said, there are some lame graphical glitches that I have encountered (Nothing I really care about considering the scale of the game)

It's an amazingly well-made game, pity the user interface was designed for three buttons.

Turning off the 360 default option doesn't actually do anything for a PC user.
No preset key for the PC is intuitively mapped. My remapped keys reset at random.
The mouse pointer doesn't always work in the UI and when it does, it's erratic. Tweaking mouse sensitivity does strange things to looking around in-game and lock-picking: it works a little better for the interface clicking. I find it hard to imagine someone testing the game for half a minute on a PC and sayig 'OK, good to go' unless they used a PC with 360 controls. It simply doesn't work.
Oh and remapping 'favorites' constantly is unfunny.
And the thing with using Steam for single player.
(Steam...five hours before game was patched from when I sat down at the computer - I occasionally work in agile software development, if you need an organizational tweak to get big decisions from people who know their bit, I'll be happy to help.)

Still it will not stop me from playing and playing a lot.
I thought on the 11th.
What with one thing or another, the DVD now sits on a shelf after no more than 10 hours playing the game. Accompanied by the still wrapped official game guide.

Having a hard time clicking in an interface isn't a big issue if that bit goes on a few minutes.
