How does Armor (Heavy, light) effect spells?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 3:15 am

In what way does it affect them.

Do they do less damage? More mana cost? I'd like to know because i've started a Thwokromancer

Robes have +50% magicka regen and reduced mana costs for a particular spell school, armors do not (without enchanting them at least).

wait... WHAT?

Seriously?

You can have mages walking around in super heavy armor and cast at 100 percent power?

Disenchant your mage robes. Add the enchantment to your armour of choice. Win!

Which requires high enchantment perk investment and is the entire benefit of taking that.

Well, you can. Though I have found you need to move pretty fast as a mage. Standing still isn't the brightest thing to do. Heavy armors would certainly impede your movement. I am guessing that things like robes might hold more enchantments too, though I honestly havent done much enchanting yet besides breaking down a few things.

I don't know what a Thwokromancer is, but I'm looking for a reliable answer on this too.

It may have no direct effect, but the more you invest in magic the less weight you can carry. That means more extreme trade offs between armor weight and loot capacity. If you don't invest in any health, or armor perks, it will be hard to manage the weight of armor.

Looks like we can enchant armor just like robes, and I'm thinking more and more about an enchanter build.

edit:
Falmer makes a good point. I haven't worn any armor yet, but if it slows you down that makes dodging very difficult - which is all I do, I'm a dancing fire blasting fool of a mage. But if you can tank as a mage then why not deal the heavy damage and go all melee?

the main point of wearing a robe is a perk in the alteration tree called mage armor, it will increase your protection spell's effectiveness by 3 fold if you're wearing a robe. If we're talking about the skill ebony flesh, raising armor by 100, it will instead raising it to 300. Its better than any armor warriors can hope to obtain.

Very interesting stuff. Its still a disappointment that they're taking all negative effects out of the game.. Its silly. Its obvious its to appeal to idiots and casuals.

Full Heavy Armor and perks can get you to nearly 600 armor. Full on Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting can get you to 2,175 armor, nearly 2,500 armor with potions. For full details, check the post by Jerich in the Cheats,Hints and Spoilers Section.
