I just got Skyrim today, (because of a mishap with Gamestop) And during the chaos of the dragon attack in the beginning, I apparently chose to follow the Imperial guy. Then I realised later on I seem to be getting a LOT of Imperial gear as rewards for my quests. I didn't set myself up to be an Imperialist because of accidentally picking to follow that guy?

No, you don't really set your path of who you support until you officially join one side or the other later on.
Alright, I usually don't post such dumb threads like this, but I started to get worried after I'd complete some random mission (like 2 hours in the game) and get rewarded with Imperial stuff. Thanks for clearing it up though
Nope. You have the option to choose a different side as the story progresses (which is the same basically on either side). So no worries! I did the same thing!!!
So long as you didn't go to solitude and be like go i wanna be a imperialist scrub then no, you can still join the stormcloaks, but it won't be quite as immersive.

No way! Dovahkiin reserves the right to change his/her mind. Nobody questions you, what with the slaying dragons and all
