Mages are so weak...

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 6:02 am

Why are mages so god dam weak?? And the enchantments are vastly inferior to combat and bows.. I play on master, I've played both a 2handed warrior to level 15, and a fireball slinging mage to level 15. The warrior is WAY stronger, and not as squishy. Even with archmage's robe, mana enchants, and a 100% mana regen hat, it feels like my mana is barely regenerating... And it's not just me, my friends agree mages are inferior in this game, mostly due to the lack of good enchants and huge mana starvation... /sigh bethesda

I've read the opposite. Someone on here the other day was saying how he lightning bolted everyone in the face and killed anyone and everything quickly and easily. I don't know who to believe.

Tell that to a friend of mine. He's destroying everything as a mage. He's even gotten to the point where Expert spells cost him 0 magicka. With enchantments and buffs, of course. I had a mage as well, before I made a new character, and I was doing decently as that.

Mages are overpowered in this game. I have a mage, a warrior, and an archer and my mage destroys EVERYTHING.

Key word: "On Master"
Magic damage scales ridiculously bad with difficulty that at certain points you never have enough magicka and do non-existant damage. Everyone knows about the enchantment exploit by now, but you need 100 enchantment first.

My first character is a mage. I'm level 21 as of right now, and honestly, i couldn't be happier with how magic plays. if you don't compare magic to things like dual wielding (with a ton of enchants), then magic doesn't seem weak at all. you just have to be smart about your magicka consumption, and take advantage of the flesh spells and conjuring. Playing a mage is a lot of fun if you don't expect to be a demi-god at level 7.

If you feel you mage is under powered then you need to change your play style.

At first it can be a bit ruffer. Later on you will do 10X a maxed war. Chain lightenign will rip through all the mobs quickly. Also storms and blizzard ect will rip apart dragons even in the air.

Paralyize effects allow stop and nuke abilities.

Dual summons offer no need to fight. At Master level your Grand fire ast. can level a town, just keep in mind you can't send him back like regular master level ones. Have to over summon a weaker one then send that one back.

Some things are under powered at first but a bit up and it's a cake walk to invis in, stun kill and move on. The hard part is switching spells and maintaining magika till you have the right stats.

it's really nothing i can change, it's bethesda's fault. if you try a destruction mage on master, which SHOULD be retardly strong... it's a mage, yet It takes me like 10 fireballs to kill somebody, and in almost every fight i find myself having to wait for my mana regen, which goes down unbareably fast.

a 1h warrior with shield probably does more dmg than me because my spells scale ridiculously bad for some reason

I'm a level 44 now and I can tell you, a war isn't parsing the higher spells I have. THere are salso enchants that boost damage, most jsut haven't realized the core ingredients now unlocked the quest that teaches them through the circle.

Mage v Mage fights are kinda fun though, spewing fire, ice or lighting from one hand while using restoration etc with the other to gain an advantage.

Least with low magic skills that's how it played out for me against a reasonable level Mage.

lighting against casters.... always... drains their mana

I could not agree more. That is probably the most powerful combination in the game. Some would even call it, game breaking.
