Writing down your adventures?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 1:27 am

Every TES game I've played has svcked me in because of the ability for me to tell my own story. The ability to define myself as a character and respond to the world in an organic fashion. Often I find myself narrating my adventures inside my head, and sometimes I get the urge to write them down.

Then I get to thinking - is it a pointless exercise? Most of the interesting interactions with characters in the world are pre-generated quests. Writing about them from the perspective of my character would lead to me writing the same story that any number of other players would create. In the end I wonder if it is even worth doing when all I really end up doing is being a more elaborate quest log.

So I pose the question. Do any of you write about the adventures your characters have? Do you think it is an exercise that grows you as a writer? Why or why not?

I don't, but it sounds like a good idea.

It gives form to fantasy. And It's always good to unlock our artistic side.

I do not, but this is really sort of my first TES game. I played Morrowind for a little bit and oblivion for less than that.

But there is a great oblivion story here with a main character, buffy, that is excellent. And I think it is wonderfully creative!

AND...with this radiant AI, supposedly none of us get all the same misc quests. But even if you did the quests the same way I did it would still be very interesting to read your characters take on it.

So write away, and share!

Forget fan-fiction. Take the advice from this video (courtesy of the great Cole Porter) if you want to improve your aptitude as a writer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSmZfnax1yw

I have thought of doing the same, most recently of my argonian archmage and his thoughts on magic and racial tolerance in Skyrim. I think any tale you feel is worth writing is worth reading.

I've read enough bad fiction to know that isn't true. But writing is the only way to get better as a writer.

If you think it is worth telling you will develop it. Some people love fan fiction and some hate it. I personally think fan fiction is bad classification.
