Dog companion disappears

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 10:53 am

Hi guys,

My gf was playing Skyrim and came across the random encounter of the companion "Stray Dog" who started following her around. When on her travels, the dog didn't catch up behind her. She's reloaded the save/fast traveled, waited, etc. but the dog doesn't come back. She's also retraced her steps and found no body and all they were fighting was mudcrabs.

Any idea of what could have happened (ie, a bug?) or is there somewhere the dog would go if it was too long? She doesn't own a house yet, but would there be some default place?

Cheers,
Pat.

Stray dogs are set up to disappear sometimes in this game. If she wants a permanent dog, there are two ways she can get one. She can buy one at the stables at Markarth, or she can go find Meeko, a dog who inherited a shack from his dead owner. Meeko's Shack resides west of Morthal. If you take the road out to the west, the shack will be off the road to the right just past a fort full of necromancers.

I hope this helped :)

Note: If you tell Meeko to go home, he will always return to Meeko's Shack. The dog you get from the stables (can't remember his name) will either return to your house or to the stables.
