Gameplay and AutoLevel

Does Skyrim have the same autoleveling for monsters as Oblivion did?

What I mean by this is a friend of mine told me that in Oblivion all the monsters autoleveled to the level he was, so areas he had traveled through at a low level were now as high as him making the game in his opinion, and mine, unenjoyable. To be honest I don't like this and would be a show stoper for me in purchasing the game. Now I have read some of the posts on here and I get the impression that the game provides different levels of monsters to the point you sometimes don't know what you are going up against until that first hit and you end up dead, and if that is the case I can't wait to get the game.

Most of the enemies (bandits, dragons, etc.) level with you. Some don't however. Giants, mammoths and trolls all seem to be a way higher level than you from the start.

Actually this system is better. What fun is it to be god running around killing people in 1 hit? But yes, the NPCs scale, not as much as in oblivion, but they scale, else the game would get boring quick.

Its far better, Its a bit more like Gothic where there are areas your clearly not going to get through until higher levels. It builds the anticiplation and is far more realistic.

Skyrim is indeed scaled pretty much like oblivion, with very minor exceptions.

And indeed, it does make for an unenjoyable experience.

From what I can gather, it is more levelled areas. For example, a dungeon might be levelled at 5-10. Depending what level you are when you enter, the dungeon will then lock. For example, if you are below 5, it ill lock at 5, above 10 it will lock at its maximum of 10 etc etc.

Thus, some areas of the game are easier than others.

Personally I've tried to explore a lot further out than the starting areas and basically got my butt handed to me on a plate!

As for your last sentence...all I can say is beware of giants!!

It's a pretty big mix, i'm level 25 (Just beat the main quest) and i've definitely feel like i'm stronger now than i was- although its nothing compared to Morrowind (for better or worse) Monsters that gave me a pretty big challenge at level 5, die in two strikes. However, a lot of stronger monsters spawn now that negate that feeling of power. It's a mixture between Oblivion and Morrowind.

It's not that I want to be a God at level 1, but I don't want to be level 15 and come back to an area that I started out at and have to fight a bunch of NPCs that were level 1 through, say, 3 and are now around level 15 because I am. I would not mind a few of them, but from what my friend told me of Oblivion it was just plain stupid to have every NPC the same level as you. If all the NPCs equal your level then there is very little feeling of advancement.

Ugh! This is what I hate about games. I would hate to buy the game only to find out it is exactly what I feared, and then I would not be able to return. Games have become an expensive hobby now, so I have to watch what I purchase. I guess I will have to pass on this game until I can find someone to talk to about it. Shame because everything else looks to be really awesome.

I want to thank everyone for their replies. I really appreciate it.

P.s. I LOVE how they have done these forums with the picture in the background. Sweeeeet!
