Mage mobs and mage mini-bosses

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 4:03 pm

Well, I am not about to complain but anyone else finds mage-type mobs are pretty tough with their casts? On higher difficulties.

I play on expert, 35 level now and most of mage bosses are very challenging, the ordinary mages are tough also especially when they come in pairs-triplets. They often two-shot me with ice shards or with frost waves. Spark draining is also very powerful - they drink my hp in seconds. Mage bosses are also very, hm, observant - I got 85 sneaking with all perks, light armor and it is almost impossible to sneak to some of them (obviously from behind and at night). And they have LOTS of health and mana. On open space it's quite hard to approach to them being casting non-stop frost waves that kill in seconds, ice shards that can one-shot on crit, atronachs they summon. Yes, I do I kill them with freaky ways like stealth shooting/running in circles self-healing/restealthing etc.

Just hit them from a distance, fall back and try to lure one or two out at a time. Whittle their numbers down until only the boss remains. Don't be afraid of some pretty steep back tracking to wage a bit of attrition war on them.

Get the necklace with 50% frost resistance, and the boots with 50% frost resistance.

I can wade through their fire(frost) :D

The trick about mages is to either:

A. Get resistance and steamroll them.
B. Kill them in "freaky ways".

ive been using a mage for a while now (lv54) and they are pretty hard to beat reguardless of difficulty i think they just appear to be able to cast spells none stop health wise there no that high compared to other mobs you can find but armour and ward spells can keep they almost prefectly defended.

best way to go is usaly to keep your distance (if your using a bow) and pick them off for melee and mage tho usaly the best way ive found is just using lighting based magic to drain there mana and if they try casting wards on me i use the force shout to stun them before they can

Yes, most of them I stealthkill with my dagger, but I've met some that have only 1/3 hp loss on stealth hit. Then she turns and one-shot me with dual shards.

Resistance items are worth getting. Most mages stick to 1 spell type too.

Not being a high elf helps as well.

The problem is that with the "constant stream" attack spells now, it's hard to dodge them or get rid off the attack quickly. It's like their casting is glued to the player.

A. Bring companion.
B. Get Spellbreaker.
C. Use a bow.
D. Get a staff of chain lightning (seriously, they make entire groups of mages stumble around every time they get hit.)
