Is there too much JUNK in this game?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 4:48 am

I come across tons of JUNK in this game.

Shovels, Lanterns, Bowls, Plates, etc...

Then I saw this funny Penny Arcade comic this morning:

Do we really need all this junk to be lootable in the game?

This is especially humorous when you think about Shivering Isles.... where there was suddenly a guy who would actually pay you for all those Calipers and Tongs that you'd left in barrels and crates across Cyrodiil.

nope, not too much.

its a free resource for modders, and it's part of the charm of TES games. I personally loves all the immersive rubbish laying around.

Funny but true

Yet, that's what makes The Elder Scrolls so charming :tes:

If I accidentally pick up another damn basket when I'm not putting it on someone's head, I swear...

Keeping with the trend of streamlining it is probably not needed anymore in this game series. Something they can cut in the next game.

It makes it feel more like a real living breathing world. And its an easy way to get a bit of gold early on to get you going.

Yes, so when you think about the SI calipers and recall the use of "ruined books" from FO3, you can't help but to wonder. The ruined books might just be an easter egg, but my 1st character is already hoarding those... just in case.

Exactly, if you have the patience, you can get a lot of gold early on by simply selling everything.

The funny Easter Egg is the Jarl Wizard at Riften, she asks you to give her tips about a experiment (Just Dialogues, no quests) then you suggest her to use Tongs and Calipers. She will say that you cannot find those as easy as you could anymore. "Is not like any crate in a house has a Caliper like the old days!"

you say useless junk i say everyday household items.

I'm already working on a tool shed for my home. shovel, hoe, rake, pickaxe, woodcutters axe...

And my kitchen absolutely needs every a well stocked cabinet of pots, pans, skillets and ladels. Not to mention a decent set of dishes and silverware, and a fully stocked bar.

And don't get my started on the varied necessaities of a packrat's study and office space. Quills, ink, rolls of paper, every GD book in the game, butterflies in jars, troll skulls, sabertooths eyes, skooma........

Skilled gamers only pick up items they actually want. Skimping on world creation would make Skyrim a lesser game.

Agree - Its up to you to deside what kind of "Junk" you want to pick up. I think its to bad if there was nothing to pick up at all ..

First off have you played morrowind, cause that game had at least twice as much junk. Secondly I would much rather have all the junk you can manipulate than stuff thats just built in to the table. How immersive is it when in other games you shoot a stack of papers on a desk and they just get a bullet hole in the side.

The junk is vital for the game and imersion , actually is a pity that they set much items static and just unoickable .... The more the best for detailing and imersion .... I loved to pick any single fork in morrowind and is really a pity you can't here ...

That "junk" breaths some life in this game, I for one would be exceptionally annoyed if I came across a Table with Plates and Candles that are APART of the Model, much less transportable to other places.

My thief character picked up all kinds of 'junk' when breaking into places. Silver dishes, plates, candelabras, all kinds of things that can be fenced for a few gold. Is it a powergaming move? No. Is it great for roleplaying? Absolutely.
