Being an Imperial

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 2:36 pm

Hi everyone, total newbie here too. I was wondering if there are any skills i should be looking
to upgrade in particular as an imperial? I'm guessing destruction and armor sure, but are there any
seasoned pros here, who can advise m,e on which other ones would be good for my class of character?

Absolutely loving the game though, it's my first time playing an RPG, but i'm hooked already, there is no going back for me now !

Thanks in advance.

race =/= class, your race gives you a bonus to certain stats, Play the race/class combo you enjoy not the one that is the absolute most advantageous

No Wheaties is exactly right. Ultimately it doesn't matter what race or class you choose. A particular race only affects starting stats. So certain races will have a small advantage in one skill or another initially but that's it. Every race can maximize any skill. You want an orc wizard, go for it.

If you're going with heavy armor as an Imperial you should consider using Restoration spells...make sort of like a Paladin type character. It'll help you survive longer without potions.

I know people like to put alot of stock in the base stats, but really, the +5/+10 difference is pretty minimal in the long run. Races are best picked by their natural abilities. Imperials +gold is certainly nifty in the short to mid run (and a bit excessive, albeit icing on the cake in the long run). The other power isn't as useful, given that its competing with shouts for assignment to the button slot.

Still, yes, as an imperial, focus on heavy armour, one handers, and restoration magic.

Play whatever you want to play.

Race only matters as far as its passive benefits or costs. (The starting bonuses to skills are overtaken within a few minutes of play, don't pay attention to those at all.) Imperials have a generic "make more money" passive, so there's no reason they can't be used in playing any sort of "class", and you will probably do yourself more service playing a "mixed-class" than focusing upon any one set of skills, anyway.

I tend to play a stealthy mage-rogue type, but that's not so much because it is the "best way to play" as it is because those are the types of things I like to do, and I tend to find getting drowned in the rush of the melee less fun than standing back, and managing the situation from a distance. I have more fun when I believe I have outwitted my opponent than when I believe I have simply overpowered him, so I prefer to skulk in the shadows and pick at the fringes of my opponents before moving in. If, however, you prefer the adrenal rush of just beating some big bad ugly into submission, then, hey, go for the warrior or the battlemage.

Apart from stats and such, be careful, people might be racist to you if they don't like the Empire or the Legion.

This. With a good combo of the Berserker, poisons and potions, I 3-shot the first dragon at level 5. Crazy stuff.
