Defeating trolls

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 8:05 pm

Hey everyone im new to the Forums and also to the elder scrolls series. Im enjoying Skyrim a lot, but i am not the great. I am having the hardest time trying to defeat a troll and i was wondering if anyone of you could give me some tips on how to take them out. I understand that they are seceptible(might of mispelled that lol) to fire but it seems that there health still regenerates back after using the flame destruction spell. thanks for the help

Fire is indeed their weakness. Try using a fire spell then wacking it a few times with a melee weapon.

I've actually been taking the time and reading the in-game books (which are flipping awesome btw Bethesda). I ran across a book about trolls. In it, it mentions fire like I've said, but it also mentions killing it quickly. Fire actually slows their health regeneration down. The book mentions that their wounds don't mend as quickly as fire sears the flesh.

A troll will outlast you if your trying to whittle away its health. Attack fast, use fire and know when he's about to throw his overhand to move out of the way(it hurts )

FIre seems to work pretty well for me. I am currently an archer type, but I've got a bow with a flame enchantment. I start with a couple of well placed, sneaky fire arrows, then switch to Flame in left and a Sword in right and they seem to go down pretty quick. Didn't stop Lydia from getting killed by one though...

I think the key is just to keep them on fire as long as possible and get a few good hits in. I think they take extra damage while they are burning. Haven't really noticed them regenerating health too quickly.

They are weak to fire (as someone said that already).

If you are fighting them in wilderness, try to climb up on a rock/mountain, where they can't get you and use your firebolt/whatever distance spell/bow on them.

Use Conjuration summons. Monsters to keep them busy, Swords and Axes for massive damage.

Use Shouts, they are not just useful against Dragons, they are useful against monsters too!

Also remember, that they regrenates health all the time, so try to kill them fast!

Each time you level up, they are easier to beat.

Hope any of those tips helps you. :)

If you're a warrior or thief type, get the first tier of block & quick reflexes. Only takes 30 points in block, not too hard.

Keep your shield up, wait for their almost constant power attacks, slip to the side during the slow motion and stab 'em one. It might take a few tries to get it right (practice on bears and wolves to get the timing down), but you can usually sneak in a sideways power attack while you're at it. Multiple trolls is trickier, but same basic idea.

The best way i found : Staff of Flames in one hand, Iron Shield in the other. Constantly block and knock him back, when he's unbalenced, torch the mutha. Dragon shouts help too

They're just hard to kill, especially since their health regen won't let you kite them around much, though once you get to a higher level they're not so bad. My level 30 dual wielder can take one down with two power attacks. Did have one very satisfying moment early on - was on top of a ruin fighting a Hagraven and two trolls. As soon as I saw them, I ran off to the side so that the trolls were lined up, and blasted them off the roof with one unrelenting force shout. The fall killed them both.

I beat them down with a war axe while casting fire destruction spells. They're tough though. I havent had to take on one since abandoning my companions though, but I am stronger now so I am looking forward to my next encounter. And remember, do not feed them.

I've killed a few, with Lydia's help, but the only one that I've had a lot of trouble with is the Frost Troll at the top of the 7000 Steps. He whacked me one ro two times and I was sliding down the mountian like a sled!! :turtle: I ended up just running past him, inot the buildign and never had to deal with killing him. (Although I will, just for the heck of it now that I'm higher lvl) :)

Reading books in Elder Scrolls games can be extremely helpful, especially in Skyrim.

For instance:
1. There are books that can give you quests or highlight where you might find a powerful weapon or artifact.
2. There are books that can increase your skills just by reading them.
3. There are books that tell you the best way to fight and hurt certain types of enemies, or the best way to pick locks, or just general strategy.
4. A lot of the books just have awesome stories that will make a lot of things in the world make more sense.
