how you decide what skill gets the perk first?

I'm playing a Nord warrior who utilizes 1h swords, shield, and heavy armor as primary skills. Smithing and archery as secondary. Then maybe enchanting down the road. This is my 2nd character and I'm currently a lvl 5. I know I want to focus on 1h, block, and heavy armor in the beginning to build his strangths up. I put my first 2 perks into 1h (armsman 2/5) and before I allocate my other 2 I am curious how other people decide what skill to build up and when. Any tips would be great because I don't want to regreat what I do with them later down the road. Thanks as always!

Well for you, I would take the ones that help with damage and protection the most. For instance, if you have two - one that increases damage by 1h weapons by 25% and one that has a chance to strike twice, I would take the 25% as it works with both 2 1h weapons and a 1h weapon and shield. This should increase your damage more. Also, there are few to no skills that do not help at all, so in the 1h skill set, the block skill set, and the heavy armor skill set, there are few that would really hinder your character's progress. Just pick whichever sounds coolest and you like. There is no "cookie cutter" skill set.

Hope this helps

I am Nord too and went with 2H Swords, Heavy Armour, Smithing and Enchanting. I and can smith/enchant some truly brutal weapons and armour and know how to use them very well. I still use the Bow at times but I haven't put any perks into it yet, going to put all I need in the other 4 first and a couple more into resoration. I have 1 perk in Speechcraft which I regret.

Smithing is a must for a warrior class, in my eyes. Not only can you create weapons/armour, with the right potions/enchantments used when upgrading them, you can make them much much more powerful. Then slap on a powerful double enchantment for extra fun ^^

The only thing I can suggest it to focus on your weapon perk tree, i.e. don't waste perk points on dual wield if your gonna use mostly 1H and Shield. Same goes for 2H, choose one of the three and save your perks.

for me the most powerfull and best early perk I could get was the one that slows time when someone swings a power attack at you and you are blocking.
in master diff. power attacks are the biggest threat for a warrior, and with that perk I can potentially not only avoid them all but also counter attack them.
