Fewer sponsors and Vednors

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 12:26 am

Is it my imagination or are there fewer vendors and sponsors this year? I wonder if this is a function of the economy. It looks like attendance at Quakecon keeping getting higher every year.

I usually enjoy seeing vendors with all the latest hardware out on display.

I didn't see Microvision, NVidia, AMD, Antec, ASUS, Patriot Memory Systemsm (I saw the PMS girls and that PMS is a sponsor, but unfortunately they didn't have a booth with latest gear for sale) and I know there were a few others in the vendor area that I'm forgetting.

Yeah apparently they raised the cost of purchasing a booth here so that's the reason if true.

Thank Bethesda for the higher booth pricing, thank Bethesda for even having the idea of BUYING a seat and not 100% totally free for everyone like the past 14 years, thank Bethesda. Thank you, QuakeCon killer...

Edit: Also, apparently, thank Bethesda for a Doom 2 movie.

A Doom 2 movie? When Doom svcked so much? Will the Doom2 movie have enough lighting that the viewer will actually be able to see what is going on?

I understand Bethesda has to cover their costs, but the booths are a major part of Quakecon's attraction, especially for those not BYOCing.

I wonder if they used the $20 per seat to improve the network for BYOC gamers. I saw some cool rigs in the BYOC area.

Are you kidding me? You have AMAZING fast internets this year. That is unheard of.

Quakecon killer? more like savior. They may have brought it downhill the past 2 years, but this year from what i've heard, it's great.

I'm with you..after last year I was pretty close to not wanting to bring a computer this year at all. The vendor area is a little sparse maybe..but the network and byoc have been kicking butt so far. I say GG gamesas! :)

Sounds like the BYOC has seen a dramatic improvement. Lets hope next year the vendor area sees a big improvement.
