Very interesting interview with Raf & Harvey at Arkane discussing how Arkane tackles morality and player choice in Dishonored.

Great interview. I strongly agree with the things Raf was saying about morality and player expression (see also: the dialogue tree thread). Deus Ex is one of the few games that really understood that concept, and it felt like the game world was reacting to the player in an organic way that both acknowledged actions and managed to do so without rewarding one play style over another.

This is exciting stuff, I'm glad SOMEONE is finally expanding on all those great ideas that we haven't seen in over a decade.

in every interview they give Harvey brings up Ultima at least once, and i totally get why he does it and it's really nice to see a developer who's actually vocal about how inspired they are by the older games like that, because there's really nothing else like it anymore.

i also really like the idea of the i guess TIERED morality vs. the good/evil/neutral you get in most games today. i'm hoping that's something that'll catch on next gen, as developers like Bioware and Bethesda get better at morally grey writing (though i see this as something Bethesda will improve at much faster than Bioware).

i also also really like ghosting. i will ghost everything. my first run will be pure ghost. i will also see if i can possess a streetlight so i can turn myself on and off a lot and freak out guards LIKE A GHOST.

I love the juxtaposition of Raf and Harvey in this video. Raf is completely cool and poised. Harvey is nervous and excited.

Oh right, about the game. I think the chaos-scale gimmick will be fun, especially since it will have real consequences and the mechanics will be completely hidden. I'm glad that they're staying away from the over-used "moral" system. Grey FTW.

Harvey rips at Infamous. Lol.

OMG, it's like he's talking about my experience on Lebedev's airplane (from Deus Ex). I could never have Juan's death on my conscience and would always have to reload!

It seems that Harvey Smith really likes Fallout: New Vegas, he mentions it in every interview I read. And yes, troll's flute was awesome.
