Hi everybody,

how much blood and gore did you expect in Dishonored. The same amount as in Arx or more like in Dark Messiah? How do you like dismemberment?
Dont missunderstand me, I′m not bloodthirsty but It′s really important for me to feel and see how powerful and sharp my weapons are. In my opinion Dark Messiah did a great job on this!

The other topic on this post is about QTE (Quick Time Events). Means there will come situations where you must type several keys in right order to prevent you from death.
We will seen some sort of them in Dishonored? Did you like or dislike these kind of things?

also QTEs are basically the stupidest [censored] thing to emerge from this generation of video games and i'm pretty sure Arkane is smarter than that.

QTE's don't fit with Arkane's style. That said, I'm sure timing and button presses will have a lot to do with game and combat mechanics (however, I assume none of it will be scripted).

I think it will be very gory, considering you can summon Rat Swarms to Kill and eat your enemies and sport a Dagger meant for Sliding into Neck Meat.

Plus, In the GI Interview, they mentioned that Rat swarms will clean the meat from the bones of corpses for easier disposal. I hope it is gory, I'm quite tired of of all the touchy Feely [censored] censoring in the game industry.

I'm gonna take this a step further and say that quick time events don't fit with any gaming style. They're a lazy, bad design choice and they shouldn't be used in any game -- with maybe a couple extremely rare exceptions.

Quick Time Events is the worst feature that happened to games (along with Health Regen) and I'm strongly against it. Although, I do strongly believe that a game consisting solely of pressing X when it flashes on screen can sell in millions just by sheer marketing power that is not the way games should go.

Frankly, I don't mind any level of gore. It's not the gore that touches my soul but rather the way it is portrayed. The whole animation process of someone dying and you being responsible for it is the thing that can be frightening. For example, Metal Gear Solid has quite disturbing moments - I hold a soldier in choke hold and slice him with the knife. The animation of slight blood squirting out of his neck and his death yell accompanied by slice sound really make me want NOT to do it again. The game might not be full of gore like Dead Rising where you paint the walls with blood and don't get emotionaly involved, but all the other things make it dreadful.

I think it would be the normal the amount of Bloodshed with blood on the sword and enemies but the Gore with, and i quote: "Rats eating the flesh off of bones" seems to strike me.

I beg to differ my friend. QTE As i see them press the button shown on screen to do some choryagraphed moved that the gmae wouldnt let you works well in some but fails in others. Iam a fan however of button presses at a specific time and i hope Arkane does this. as seen in my "What im concerned about: Movement" thread

Just kidding. I think Dark Messiah was about right. I just dislike games which have melee-combat without visible effects. Shooters don't need the gore very much, unless you blow someone up with a rocket. But a game with blades does to and extend.

That was slightly entertaining. No offence to Arkane but Dark Messiah was little to over the top i hope in Dishonored its more realistic and you get to chose where you hit as seen in teh video. Agreed on the note about shooters i thing a little red flying off is perfect and with a rocket everywhere.

An interesting question would be "Where does QTE start for you guys?"

In Dark Messiah, during combat, your sword could clash with the one of your opponent. You would then have to smash the mouse button like crazy to push away your opponent - while the swords were clashing. Do you guys consider this a QTE?
It's not to me, cause this specific input request - specifically under this context - is like the expression of the player (i.e "smashing the button" connects in game with "pushing the enemy away with all the force you can"). It's not a random key sequence that is disconnected from what you're character is doing in game.

if it feels like something logical that you should do at that moment, like your example from Dark Messiah, then that's fine. if there's no visual cues associated with it and it's left entirely up to the player to deduce based on his grasp of the gameplay mechanics, that's perfectly alright.

if it's just a button chosen at random to make the player feel completely artificial tension or to feel like he's playing a role in something that's much cooler or cinematic than anything he could actually do in the normal game, that's when it's a problem.

I wouldn't call the Dark Messiah example a QTE. That's fine.

More like what couch said. Scripted cutscenes most of the times where you lose control of your character while he starts doing all kinds of crazy moves, with a random meaningless key you need to press every few seconds so you don't die.

I totally hate pushing/smashing buttons very fast to do actions. I consider more intuitive if you keep the attack button/key held (in case of a sword) to hold the enemies sword, in addition use the forward movement key (or stick) to push against the enemy and if you're strong enough to push him back, or side step to divert the enemy's energy to your side, so he may even be pushed forward by his own force and stumble to the side. More realistic also.

I think that the blood and gore will be as realistic as possible, so a lot.

But what is realistic, when it comes to blood and gore? I can think of three good examples...

There's Call of Juarez, the only game to use an innovative damage decal technique on injured foes; a red spot appears and slowly expands at the point of impact, mimicking the effect of blood soaking into clothing from a puncture wound concealed beneath the cloth. This would work nicely in Dishonored and furthermore is fairly easy to implement. Seeing it taken to the next level, soaking 'clothing' zones but not boltons or overlayers would be a very powerful visual for a game concerned, ultimately, with assassination.

Secondly Hitman: Blood Money advanced the blood system beyond the previous three titles in the series by including not only pooling blood beneath shot and knifed victims but also drag marks which attempted to follow the direction in which you hauled the corpse. A very quick technique for incapacitating a foe in the game with minimal planning or input was to pistol-whip them in the face using a context sensitive tap of LMB, followed up by a second tap to deliver a nose-crushing headbutt to put them to sleep. This would generally spatter a small amount of blood on the floor, which could arouse the suspicions of other AI who pass through the area.

Lastly I'll mention two much older titles which each have pleasing qualities; Deus Ex 1's bleeding system did not actively damage the victim - it merely trailed after a badly injured foe if they were induced to flee in fear, allowing you to track them down and finish or incapacitate them to prevent them from alerting others at a distance in their escape. Blood effects tended to vanish rapidly in this game however, and I don't believe the AI was capable of noticing it in the first place.

Finally, Thief: The Dark Project (and its sequel The Metal Age) I believe allowed the player to use their precious torch-extinguishing Water Arrows to clean up bloodstains from indiscrete killing.

I wonder if our lovely rats and body disintegration majiks will be able to clean up the mess, too?

This game will have some blood,but I am not sure about the gore. And what is with the hate of QTE's? I thought they were a fun and more immersive way of fighting a boss and a enemy

I think the amount and degree of gore will be akin to the one in “Dark Messiah of Might and Magic” since they said that you can behead enemies. I’m glad to hear this. The more, the merrier ;>
