So there appears to be a bit of a beneficial shield bug once you unlock the improved shield strength. I assume this is because the shield strength bonus is applied to the shield as you're picking it up. Basically if you pick up a shield (dropping your old one) then pick up your old shield again, it will "heal" itself. You can repeatedly keep picking up and dropping your shield until its condition is healed to full. Quite useful if you've got an epic shield you don't want to part with
