While I was trying to remind myself last night what the game was about, I found this. I like what I read.

Also, http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/07/13/dishonored-the-heritage-of-arkane-studios.aspx was posted in the Meet the Devs thread (I think).

If you didn't know what to expect from Arkane, you do now.

I am honestly terrified by the prospect of this game...
I was moderately interested in this game a while ago.. then it started popping up more and more and the more I read the more excited I got..

This actually seems to be a game made in the old fashioned style of freedom and interactive progression...
Something I've been hoping for a long time.
If this can be coupled with an engaging story then...
And every time I get my hopes up for a game, I kind of hype it up in my mind and I get disappointed.

I can feel myself building a pedestal for this game in my mind..

Stop it damn you!

That one's for talking to the devs. This one's for talking about. Also, they seem kind of busy at the moment.

Damn im upset now though. Harvey Smith & Rapheal colantonio: "it has RPG elements but its not really an RPG".
So I assume they mean there is like skill trees and runes & thats all. I NEED rpg elements! lots! upgrade everything, dialogue options, interact with everything, all that goodness.
Sigh....oh well they have my full support no matter what. True First person role-playing immersive sims will arise again one day!

And although I dont often use stealth in these type of games, I really appreciate the option I can use it if I want to, Its all about the freedom. I do use it alot for thievery and when I start a new game because you are weak then (in the true LGS RPGs)

Viktor Antonov is one of the people interviewed in this video. He talks about design. It's in French.

Harvey Smith & Rapheal colantonio "it has RPG elements but its not really an RPG".

Thief wasn't an RPG and it was brilliant. I don't have a problem with it being an FPAA: there hasn't been a good one out since Thief 2. I've been waiting a long time for something like this... :twirl: Everything I've read, however, does indicate that there will be conversation and there will be levelling up. And it isn't just there for filler: the choices you make in both regards matter.

Im not really into Thief, great game, just not my thing, Im all about deus ex, system shock 2 & arx fatalis. Thief lacks the depth that those three has.
It would have helped if I played thief before DX and the rest, but no I played in 2012.
I have been enjoying system shock 1 more, I just prefer shooting over stealth (+ it has other things like inventory management & upgrades), but the best is having the option to do both shooting & stealth when I please. I probably use stealth the most in arx fatalis for stealing and because there is no guns.

In Dishonored I know there is still leveling up, reactive game world, choice & consequence, freedom, Immersion/simulation design all the stuff I love, so it still is my most anticipated game this year. Anyway maybe I just misunderstood them in the video too, we shall see.

we need info!

Still I am Being negative, The game will be great, best of 2012 that much is certain.

There is no dialogue options, however NPCs will react and say different things depending on your actions. As for levelling all that has been confirmed is choosing 1 of 3 levelling systems, Probably like skill trees.

RPS: "Is First person perspective mandatory for immersion?"
Harvey: “Definitely not. I just finished RDR and found it highly immersive.
It might sound obvious now, but my eyes were first opened up to immersion not as a graphical or camera thing but as a design thing by Rob Fermier of Looking Glass, in a GDC talk. Before that, I guess I understood it intuitively, as a fan of the Ultimas. But Fermier articulately broke down immersion into three components: completeness (the player can do what he expects to be able to do), integrity (the illusion is never broken, the player is not jarred out of the game) and investment (the player cares about what happens).
I think first-person-perspective games with realistic spatial representations take this a step further, adding a familiar visual component; players immersed in first-person perspective games often physically dodge projectiles or lean in their seats when attempting to see around the corner.
So first-person is just a preference. Games of the same style as STALKER, Bioshock or Far Cry 2 are more…I love them as much as or maybe more than the best pop music in my life or favorite novels.”

I disagree- Whilst 3rd person can be immersive (especially RDR) third person perspective constantly reminds you that you are controlling a character, forced to see the back of them the whole game. But 1st person is superior for gameplay too, for example looking under a bed, you cannot do that properly in 3rd person.
Also you have more control over your character in 1st person, at least these days anyway. Only RDR could you jump whenever you wanted to, crouching & mantling too. unlike mass effect and all other so called "modern" third person games where you could only jump and crouch behind cover when the game tells you by prompts.
1st person is far superior. Although i still like 3rd too.

EDIT: I am a idiot. ha ha

I turned myself around a bit up there. There's no dialogue, you're right, but you do get to make decisions as to the story. Skill trees are par for the course, 'course.

As for 3rd person... It's alright where the game is more about the story than your story. It works for Alan Wake, Final Fantasy, etc. Otherwise, I'm not a fan of it. The most recent example of a bad third person game is KoA -- not only is it in third person, but the camera's just about breathing down your neck.

That brings up a concern of mine. I am wondering how much things might have changed, or not changed, in the 6 months since the alpha impressions. New screens/info/videos would be nice/great/perfect... I need to know stuff.
