I bought a horse... but it can't come inside cities with me. Will it be where I left it, or will it be wherever I exit the city?

Say, in Whiterun, instead of exiting out the front door where I got off my horse, I exit some other way... will Mr. Ed be there waiting for me, or do I have to go back to that exact same spot?

if they arent there where you are you can always fast travel back to the same location it will be there unless it has been killed.
