Changing language (PC box version, not Steam)

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:07 am

Hello

I bought a german box version of the game and (seeing multiple localization sets after installation) decided to switch to english.
I open ...\Documents\My Games\Hunted\DFGame\Config\DFEngine.ini and change the Language=DEU entry to INT (tried ENG too, but the set is named INT)
-> the game changes to french (i guess?), not english...?
I tried ESN and ITA too, and spanish and italian seem to work just fine (exept I don't understand a word, same with french)
Am I missing something? Is there an other way to switch between languages? (or a way to register a boxed game with Steam? I know how to change langages there.)

Thanks in advance

Nope "EN", just results in a french game again...

After digging around the web for a while I found that while all the files seem to be there, english simply seems to be "disabled" in the "not uk/us/whatever" european boxed PC version.
What the hell? Why is this? Any official Statement on this?

The Game is ok and fun and it's not like i want to return it (Amazon wouldn't reimburse opened games anyway), but things like this irk me. If I had known this would be such a mess, i would have bought it of Steam.

So asking again... Any way to register the box version with Steam?

since there isn't a key there sadly isn't a "legal" way off enabling it in steam and i won't go into the other way (forbidden to talk about it and i don't want to earn myself a ban)

Yeah, I know, no keys... that was an other thing I was wondering about while installing the game... has been a long while since I had a new game (or any software for that matter) without a key. I could mail them a scan of the receipt of Amazon or something like that, but whatever, I doubt that would work.

I found a way around it, that does not involve downloading illegal and potentially trojan infested [censored].

"Simply" go through every folder of the game, delete every file with FRA (or any other language abbreviation you want to replace) in its name that has a corresponding file with INT in its name, copy the corresponding INT file and rename the copy to the orginal file for that language. Select that language and you have an english game.
Was a [censored]load of work but it seems to work fine.
Everyone praise object oriented design and the Unreal engine.

I still would like to know why the hell english is disabled in an international (?) release.

Hi, did as you told but I sowehow must have missed some files, texts and menus are in english but the voices are still german, which is quite disturbing after all Ive changed. do you recall where exactly you changed files? I changed both localization folders in engine and dfgame, the complete cookedpc folder in dfgames and couldnt find more.
very irritating I payed for the game so I should not have to listen to crappy resynchronizations -.-

and btw there was a key attached to my booklet didnt you have one?

instead of renaming all files this seems to work as well and is slightly faster:

- just search for all files containing "DEU", "FRA" and "ITA" located under the main install folder and delete the results
- note: there is one additonal file also containing "FRA" which you propably dont want to delete
