Enchanting "exploit"

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 4:57 am

I just came up with an idea I definitely need to try when I get home.

Increasing your enchanting with an enchantment increases the % of whatever effect you're enchanting something with, right?

So what if I start off with a 5% enchanting increase on a robe, put that on, then enchant another robe with an enchanting increase which now scales to 6%, then put that on and start enchanting again. If I keep doing this, I should be able to make a robe with +255% enchanting, right?

Is that even an enchantment?

I think you would need to enchant to increase alchemy, brew an enchanting potion, enchant to increase alchemy (bit stronger) and make a even stronger potion of enchantment.... continue...

This sounds like Morrowind all over again. I haven't found any enchantments that raise your skill in enchantment however and I don't know if it exists, so it might be hard to do this.

Have you seen the thread where you can do 2.7k damage PER HIT? Yes, this game is broken.

This is certainly possible, albeit in a more roundabout way. There are enchantments that boost alchemy...and potions that boost enchanting. Need i say more?

It's broken if you want to break it - personally I choose not to

I think the things that boost alchemy or enchanting should cap at 100 or a fixed number like 120. So you only benefit from them if you are not yet at max. That should put a stop to exploits.

Please tell me why you should stop something that is very obviously an exploit...in a single player game? If you don't want to do it, you don't have to do it. There's no reason to 'fix' it.

I agree with this. It's not hurting anyone. TES games have always been like that.

Common sense dictates that you shouldn't be able to create gear much greater than daedra lord rewards. Obviously it was never intended to be this powerful. The game should have reasonable challenges, and if you allow exploits in the game, it will break the immersion.

Trust me, I won't exploit the game to make my skill go beyond 100. But the onus shouldn't be on me to avoid exploits. The onus is on the devs to fix them.

The single player game excuse is starting to wear thin. Just because it is a single player game, doesn't mean it is allowed to have poor design and exploits. Poor design and exploits should be removed.

Yeah, if you resort to exploits and stuff, you're breaking the game yourself. I know this trick here doesn't work, but just assume it would:

You spend time and effort to raise these stats like crazy, which gets probably boring soon, then when your overpowered, you run through the game and think: "Uh, nothing's a challenge, this is boring."

While you could just've played and enjoyed the game, gaining your stats and skills "normally" and thus experience the game "normally".

Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with exploits and stuff like that, but if you find it messes with the game too much: don't do it. It's like cheating: if you do it, no prob, but don't complain when it starts being no fun.
