That is your opinion, there are many who have a deep interest in the lore, the happenings in previous games and the general background to the Elder Scrolls series. We do not all have the same interests fortunately.

I think looting and killing is more fun if you actually know who you are looting and killing. If you strip away the lore from Elder Scrolls games, all that's left is just an empty playground for kids to swing their swords in, not knowing what they're actually doing.

I find it interesting. I like reading all of the books. I wish they did have more or would add more though.

To be honest, I couldnt disagree more with the OP.

I play RPG's to be immersed into a rich world and to put thought into the way I play.

I am the Yin to the Ops Yang in this case.

Sounds like a really dull way to approach this game to me. Nobody forces you to enjoy the lore (or story) ofc, but it`s essential to this game and builds up the story of the virtual world around your character. I mean, sometimes I even read the books that you can find in the game.
Without the lore the gaming experience would be quite grey, I don`t know if I would give enough value to a game that to me is only about quests and dungeons in order to invest my precious time into it.
Lore adds up to immersion of a real adventure in a real world (well of course Skyrim isn`t real, but makes it feel more real when you know the backgrounds).

Story, atmosphere, contact to the world within the game, lore etc are all important factors.

Sooo a big disagree from me.

It's the same reason kids today would rather they never had to crack open a book for as long as they lived.../rambles about walking to school through 20 feet of snow
