Smithing or Enchanting? or both?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 1:27 am

Okay so i havent touched smithing or enchanting. Im currently perking to archery and sneak with minor one hand. So ill be using light armor, My question is this. Which one of these 2 will help me more in the longrun? The pros and cons of each. Honestly i dont even know how enchanting works.

Or is it even viable to go into both trees if i have enough points?

Please help me :]

If anyone can give me a quick rundown on how enchanting works as well it may help

Play the game for fun, and stop worrying about what's "best".

And i never asked what was best. I asked what would help me out more in the longrun

I'm doing both trees, but focusing more on smithing first so I can make good armor to enchant for the long run.

Theyre both worth using. Smithing allows you to create your own weapons and kindof upgrade them to like Flawless or Legendary etc. That will increase the base raw stats on your gear. Enchanting will allow you to further increase their worth by adding damage buffs or health/armor. If youre going for the highest damage output, try making a good weapon, enchanting it, and then throwing on some poison in a fight,

I'm a rogue player so investing in Blacksmithing and Enchanting can be useful, but I don't plan to master them. Enchanting can save you from a lot of crazy spots. At least, if you're like me and like using one weapon in particular, enchant it and get the Arcane crafting perk or something like that, that will allow you to upgrade your enchanted weapons and armoury. Gotta love recycling!

I do smithing and enchanting.

Smithing is easier to level as the resource needs are easier to come by. Leather and ore (all you need is iron) are very easy and cheap to come by, so you can just craft Iron daggers up to 100. I used the Whiterun smiths as there are 3 of them. This allows for items to be bought/re-sold quickly and also each has a good stock of ore. I've heard there are guides out there to level smithing extremely fast, but I did it in moderation and maxed it fairly easily just crafting iron daggers.

You can then work enchant by enchanting your iron daggers in bulk (assuming you have enough soul gems filled) or you can also craft silver rings in bulk and enchant those and then sell back to NPCs. Smithing is a quicker interface and thus easier to level faster. Enchanting requires a 3 selection interface which gets tiresome when your doing large enchant runs - especially if your enchanting daggers since you also have to pick how many charges you want.

100 smith. 91 enchant at the moment. I'm holding off on doing any major enchants until I'm 100 on my dragonbone armor. Then I'll go out and fill Azura's Star soulgem with some powerful soul.
