FFTA has a nice story. I was hooked. The next one is for the DS but easy to play on an emulator. It is low tension as you might say, just like a nice Ivalice holiday, but with a very nice job system. I played Hunter, it was great.

Mmm. I dunno, to me breaking up the classes for various races was a disappointment. Part of the fun of FFT is creating your own playstyle drawing on skillsets, reactions, support, and movement from a wide variety of classes. Sure, it is a balance nightmare, but that is where the replay came from. I don't think I replayed FFTA a single time.

Not about a word that is essentially already defined by the gaming industry.
Awfully slippery word there: "essentially" - as in, "not really"... who are these "experts" that have made this distinction? Gamespot? IGN? The retailers?

This is like discussing what the word "theory" means in a thread about science.
Not really sure how you make that leap. We're talking about the definition for a category of games, not the semantics of empiricism.

As in, the information is out there but you have ignored it and instead redefined a word to suit your feelings on the subject.
No, I haven't ignored it. It's simply misleading to categorise JRPGs and cRPGs together. Why else would they carry the "Japanese" qualifier?

I only played it once, and to tell the truth I don't remember my class. Just liked the story.

JRPGs are differently mostly just because they are Japanese... They don't have so much D&D influence, and they have loads of Japanese cultural influence naturally... But you do a lot of character building for everyone in the party. Don't seem that different to me, but YMMV, what can you say.

It would just devolve into pointless off-topic debate about the true definition of an RPG, just like every other RPG thread on this forum.
Blame devs who are trying to lower the bar, to the point where halo would be an rpg, if only I could chosse between 2 meaningless cutscenes every now and then.

This wasnt an issue until everyone was streamlining rpgs to get casuals.

Man i would love to play all the old classic rpg's, but i just cant play with that outdated graphics. Its sad, cause I Morrowind is one of the best games Ive ever played, but I cant go back to it with the old visuals. Same for Neverwinter and Baldurs Gate. Ive tried, but I just cant!

If you acquired experience points, leveled up, upgrades weapons, and unlocked perks in the single player component of the game, I could see it being called an FPS-RPG.

Actually, that sounds like it would be pretty fun. Makes one wonder why BF, COD, etc don't have any level progression in the campaign.

but i just cant play with that outdated graphics.

It is a painful process, but your eyes will eventually adjust.

Anyways, that's why I prefer games that are stylized as opposed to attempting to be realistic. Stylized never really looks that "Dated" compared to a game going for realistic graphics that just look extremely old and [censored].
