Third Person is Amazing! But targeting is off......

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:19 am

After playing for a bit I jumped out to third person and was blown away by how good it looked. You can see so much more around you, everything looks crisper and your hands don’t take up half the screen. It really is a beautiful way to play the game!!!

But…. And this is a big smelly but………. I found that the targeting for spells is a bit off. Spells seem to shoot a bit higher and lightning bolts seem to go off on their own. This doesn’t happen at point blank but as a mage you need to pick things off from a distance. I tested it out by shooting projectiles off into the distance in first person and everything landed RIGHT on target. Then without moving at all I zoomed out and noticed that my spells weren’t hitting the targeting mark. It makes fighting extremely difficult. Even after I thought I adjusted to have fire bolt and frost spike compensated for, lightning bolt seems to act oddly on its own.

On my second play through I planned on going dual wielding in which case this really won’t be an issue but it’s bugging the crap out of me now. Does anyone else have this? Is there any way to fix it? Does Bethesda have it on their known issues list? As much as they bragged about how great third person is this seems like an issue that makes it almost unplayable for ranged classes.

Other than that… great game. Love it to bits. ?

Having the same issue in third person with bows, but first person isn't perfect either. Often arrows will stick to the surface I'm standing on instead of following the crosshair, telling enemies my position, etc.

Ive found when sat on a rock its like the rock is in the way yet my bow is well above the rock.

Yeah there isn't much improvement to 3rd person combat from Oblivion which suffered from the same problems, hopefully something gets changed but you'll likely have to wait for a mod as they aren't known to change key mechanics of the game even if there's a problem with it.

Honestly guys, third person is not for actual gameplay; its solely to make digital pormography and 'meat spin'.

tl;dr, you're doing it wrong! :celebration:
