whats the deal with the companion AI?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:54 am

Seriously.. the companions are so stupid that it takes away the purpose to have one tagging along... they get stuck in thin air, can't move and im forced to either move them bit by bit by the "i need you to do something for me" or using the push shout, and that doesnt always work, i run down a small hill with a little path, then suddenly she stops runs back all the way around like 500 miles to get to me, so im forced to wait for like 20 minutes untill she arrives.... i really hope this is getting a fix pretty soon.. untill then ill run alone rambo mode B)

Yeah when your not even running and they cant keep up, it's kinda lame. The game still kicks ass though.

They make good carrying mules and as far as I've noticed they do seem to always reappear in time for a fight or dungeon crawl, no matter how far ahead I was.
AI wise, they are sometimes anonoying by blocking entrances or jumping into my firespell while attacking and then shouting at me 'watch out'. Still fun though :)

And this is why I've never liked companions. I have yet to see a game, not even Half Life 2 can get it right, where companions don't get in the way or their pathfinding is just horrible.

I have, and always will, stay away from companions unless forced upon me.

the only thing that companions are good for is being a pack mule and someone to distract the enemy while is attack form behind

Summons in Dekaron teleports near you if you go too far away from them.
Does that count?

agree, IF they can keep up and don't get stuck all the time :D note that i only experienced this in the rugged terrain and not in the flat ones.

Companion mods in OB are pretty good, if I may say so. (;))
I am sure modded companions are equally, if not better, in Skyrim.

Lydia feels it is necessary to hit every trap, disappear whenever she wants, and step in front of my power attacks when she has 3 hp left forcing me to reload my last save... I figure its karma for me letting the punch-happy Veronica deal with 75% of the enemies in New Vegas lol...
