Please only post in this topic if you are a Destruction Mage

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:29 am

I DON'T WANT ANY DISCUSSION OF THE TYPICAL ISSUES - PLEASE JUST ANSWER THE QUESTIONS SO PEOPLE WHO ARE IMPARTIAL CAN GATHER DATA - THANK YOU!!!! :)

Are you a Mage?

Are you using Destruction?

Are you over level 40?

If the answer is "yes" to ALL of the above.....

Are you wearing the mask/robes and other items that give 100% mana regen?

(I'm assuming your destruction constellation is maxed out)

Are you wearing items that reduce destruction mana cost (through reasonable game play, not min/maxing equipment)?

Are you playing on at least normal difficulty (prefer Expert or higher)?

If you answered yes to all those questions.....

Are you finding yourself regularly getting destroyed easily?

Are you constantly running out of mana and having to kite/run away for minutes on end to stay viable?

Are you finding that enclosed mob battles or major boss battles are near impossible?

Thank you for answering the questions.

Its hard, way harder than other damage types, but its doable. I don't get destroyed, but I do kite and it does take a while to kill harder mobs. I go through many many potions since I don't use the enchanting trick.

No, I do not use the enchanting exploit. I have robes and my magicka costs are only reduced by 40%.

While we are on the subject, has anyone found other unique robes other than "ArchMage" ones?

This is the main point isn't it? It's not that mages are dying, or finding the game too difficult, it's that high level enemies take absolutely ages to take down - certainly far longer than they do with a high powered sword or bow

This. It's just boring. Getting slower at killing as you level IS not FUN. Other classes do not have this problem.

Its "viable", but far from progressive.

To the first three questions, yes.

After that, i've tried a variety of variations with the console; mostly to experiment and try and pinpoint what is getting people so upset.

My findings have led me to conclude that for the msot part, magic is fine. The problem most people have lies with destruction not doing enough damage against higher level creatures. For some reason, the skills stop giving you the ability to increase the amount of damage you're doing around level 40. Some people appear fine to move to another skill to compensate. Others are upset that they can't continue their established play-style all the way through to the end of the game.

I should clarify (although I'm certain it will do little good) that NO ONE IS ADVOCATING THE USE OF DESTRUCTION ALONE.

Destruction is a combat skill. People may want to use it as their primary combat skill (like one-handed, two-handed, bows, etc), but again I will say that NO ONE IS ADVOCATING THE USE OF DESTRUCTION ALONE. Other skills ARE being considered here. Please understand that saying there is a problem with destruction DOES NOT MEAN PEOPLE AREN'T using other skills. In all of these threads, I keep hearing people get accused of that, and I've never heard a single person say they are trying to make a go of it with destruction alone.

That being said, destruction stops scaling after around level 40. Period.

Once you have the two damage dealing perks, and have the most powerful spells, you will never increase your damage again, regardless of skill increases. After 40, your destruction powers will stay exactly the same as they always were, but the enemies will get gradually harder.

This is not a huge problem for some people, and others simply don't care. It can be avoided, bypassed or ignored. But some people want it fixed. It is not a complicated or unreasonable request, and there is no reason to get emotional about it. Please keep that in mind.

Yes to all, except the get destroyed parts. I also leveled sneak and I stay hidden for most of the fight, when boss battles happen I usually stay at max range, hidden and pull out the staff of sanguine forget its name that lets me summon a demora lord but without any range limits, occasionally I will recharge it while remaining hidden, I keep invisibility in reserve if it looks like they are getting close to pinpointing my location. My damage output is just far to small to duke it out without tons of magicka pots with destruction vs boss encounters. I am tempted to use the 100% off exploit, and see what happens then in boss fights, but it feels to much like a cheat.

I'm in the same boat. I don't want to completely write off magicka management (important to any RPG imo).

Hey, to all who answered as mature advlts - thank you so much - I appreciate it.

To the immature idiots who seem to feel every post is their playground regardless of how impartial or polite a person is: get bent, you have the emotional and intellectual level of a 4 year old.

Again, thanks to all who helped with the actual 'data'....

Mana regen? Lol. No. Destruction costs less to cast on amulet, necklace and circlet ... super over-powered, imo.
