I just reached level 30 last night and I started following the main quest. And I am extremely disappointed so far with the dragon encounters, I hate to say that because I was looking forward to this for months.
Please turn back now if you don't want to read spoilers.
Spoiler
It started with my first dragon encounter where a dragon rises from the dead. I was expecting this to be an awesome battle, but it wasnt. First thing the dragon did was circle around, and focus 100% of its attention on Delphine. It was like I wasn't even there, I was firing arrows at it and it still just ignored me. It kept flying around, then landed near delphine and she fought it and eventually defeated it. So I reloaded to a previous save to hopefully have a better fight this time around, but nope. This time it ignored both me and Delphine, and put 100% focus on a nearby giant (which also slayed the dragon for me).
I just had my 2nd encounter a few minutes ago which is what made me want to start this thread. I was passing a fort which was overun by mages, and it was being attacked by a dragon. So I go over there to help out (I'm the dragon born after all) And the mages stop fighting the dragon and simply attack me. Ok then, so I decide to camp on a nearby hill and wait it out. Surely a DRAGON can take on these mages and then I can move in to take the dragon on.
NOPE. The dragon swoops over again and again blowing its ice breath on these mages and dealing minimal damage, while the mages cast spells that take off 10% of the dragons health at a time. So I decided this is [censored], so I decide I'm going to go running into the thick of this and taking on this dragon. So I run in, the dragon blows ice breath at me and my health drains at like 50 points a second and I have to drink health potions over and over if I hope to have a chance. Yet these mages who are unarmored and have no health potions barely get scratched by the dragons attacks.
I'm sorry, I just don't feel like a level 30 character, and definitely not a dragonborn. I was hoping to see a dragon attack taking place and I could run in with people cheering while I take on a dragon. And then being thanked like a hero, like my character should be.
Words cannot describe how disappointed I am. I thought the wait would be worth it, so much that I enjoyed the rest of the game up until level 30 just to savor it. The rest of the game is fantastic though.
