Can a rogue survive on leather armor thru the endgame levels

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 5:32 am

All,

I have a max sneak rogue with dual wielding, and I am wondering if I can continue to survive using only leather armor. I have all 13 sneak perks so most foes never see me but occasionally I have to dual wield a fight against 1 or 2 foes. It goes fine now, but what about at level 30? 50? Etc?

The elven, glass and dragonscale armors are too gaudy and trashy looking. Well, dragonscale is kinda cool, but way too flashy. I want my guy to BE epic, but not look epic. A rogue should blend in. :)

Can anyone let me know my odds of survival? Are there any unique casual-looking armors that have the same performance as glass?

If not, I guess when I reach the level that glass armor starts dropping, I could make a mod that just puts a set of named leather armor in the game that has glass armor values.

I want to look the part, ya know?

What about the nightingale armor or the dark brotherhood set (that exists here right?). Those might have a look more suited to your tastes with superior stats.

You can also try smithing/enchanting to make better leather I guess, would probably be on par or superior to the stuff you'd find anyway.

I think you could play naked and still make it, I used a mage robe and hood for the first 7 levels. But I found some stylish light armor so went with it.

What about the dark brotherhood armor? Or you could just re-smith leather armor every couple levels plus enchantments to keep your protection up...

To balance your low defense, you're going to want high LA and enchantments. Otherwise, you're probably going to be annihilated in those instances where sneak doesn't come through.

Actually that's one issue with the crafting system: you can heavily enhance all armor types except leather and iron (and hide and fur), because there are no perks to access those.

So, leather won't scale as well that far into the game.

My rogue is non-evil, so any dark brotherhood gear is out. Where does the nightingale (sp?) armor come from?

Why not light armor and craft a set of dragonscale? Is there a reason to stay with leather?

I dont like the dragonscale because it is too over the top and showy/flashy. I dont want to look like a deathknight. Also, I cant fit the perks to make it into my build.

As for the nightingale armor, I guess I could live with the thieves guild.

Thanks!

Leather looks cool. Dragonscale looks like you have [censored] dragon parts stick out of you ... which technically you do, I guess.

Glasd is ugly. But worse, it is garish. I cant see sitting down with farmers, rogues or soldiers to shoot some dice, have some brews, and carefully get info from them, all while looking like a Christmas tree ornament or a brass lamp from the 70s. And certainly not with my dragonscale pointy bits poking people in the ear. :)

I'm level 31, can get an armor rating of around 120 out of leather, WITHOUT any "flesh" spells, so yes, it is an option.

What about scaled? Some scaled horned armor I found has a suitably shabby leather look to it and its better than elven.

You get Thieve's Guild armor pretty quickly in the guild questline. The guild also upgrades it to improve it shortly after. Then you get the Nightingale armor. Both sets look cool and have nice stats.

I'm pretty sure I've found enchanted fur armour in the wild.

Cool. Thanks for all the respomses. I may shoot for the Nightingale stuff. I would prefer not to steal, I view my character more as a hero. But I can add a dash of thief in with my handsome knife fighter concept. :)

As for scale armor, I found it a bit bulky. Not bad, but too ramshackle. Well, its just not snug enough. Wish they had mithril shirts. :)
