Metro 2033

Ok Rage time.

First off, this game is amazing. Few people recommended it to me because I enjoy single player story driven FPS games.

But man....it induces a rage inside me so deep I almost break my controller.

I'm at this part...right after D6. I'm outside with all those lurkers and anomalies. Every.single.time....they break my gas mask off. I only have pistol ammo.

And for some stupid reason, the game autosaved at a part where my gas mask was broken, so I have 20 seconds to live...and I can't find a new one or a place that's safe. I have monsters all over me...I want to cry because the game is so good I want to continue playing! :(

So, anyone play this game? Got any tips?

ALWAYS take enemies out before they get to you, whatever it takes. Always keep lots and lots of filters, they run out a lot. Keep lots and lots of ammo, and use it very sparingly. Aim for the neck or an unarmored head on humans, shoot the nosalises right in the neck with a shotgun when they're lunging at you, and for the love of all that's holy DON'T SCREW WITH THE LIBRARIANS.

As for your situation, I don't recall any anomalies after D6... you sure about that? Lurkers are also fairly weak things, one throwing knife and one six shooter shot should kill them.

This is now a Metro 2033 discussion thread.

I'm currently stuck in the first station of the Red Line, because I'm no good at stealth and the filthy commies have an entire army on hands.

I got the book Metro 2033 for Christmas, it's a great book o regimens people read it, the game leaves out a ton.

Don't feel too bad. The stealth in this game is less than perfect. It's something I hope they improvement upon in Last Light.

Metro 2033. A great game for the bargain price I paid ($5, on Steam, where it is often on sale). I ran into a lot of tough spots too. As Texnshasta said up there, conserve your ammunition as best as possible, and always try to take down enemies before they get into beating range. It can be tough to get head and neck shots when you're being charged at by shrieking, snarling Nosalises. But try, nonetheless, and get some practice with throwing knives. It'll save you ammo. Carry a shotgun and reserve it for when the enemy gets too close for comfort, because at point-blank range, you're almost guaranteed to drop an enemy with a neck shot from the shotty.

It isn't a very forgiving game, if you don't make an actual effort to survive. In a way, you have to act as if you truly were in a post-apocalyptic Russia that is overrun with mutants: conservation of resources, taking it slow, etc.. If at all possible, reload an older save, and make an effort to gather some additional filters and a new gas mask if yours is at all damaged. That's the best advice I can give, since being in the open with a broken gas mask, twenty seconds to live, and surrounded by mutants doesn't sound fun, and barely survivable. :(

It gets worse, much worse. D6 is horrible like that.

Load a previous chapter, collect/save all the ammo you can, becuase you are going to need it for inside D6.

I love the game, but D6 is a nightmare. Those stupid glow-y ball-y things, and having to protect whats-his-face too :swear:
As Comrade said, you should read the book, it's awesome.

Indeed, on ranger hardcoe mode I ran out of bullets :/ I then ended up trying to protect the guy with my knife. Then after dying a few times, he luckily made it through.

How is the book ? I considered getting it, but reviews said the translation was horrible.

Translation seemed fine to me. I loved it, but it's probably not to everyone's taste. There's a Metro 2034 book too but it hasn't been translated into english yet.

When I first went through the archives, I had the game on low volume so I didn't hear that guy tell me how to get past the Librarians. Needless to say, I went through with guns blazing. I don`t know how I made it out alive lol

And I wanted to kick myself in the head, because I think Black Station was the last one to sell and buy guns and ammo, and I mistankinly sold all my machine gun ammo thinking it was pistol ammo and bought [censored] tons of pistol ammo. :(

And I`m not sure what the monsters are called lol I`m on the surface and there is a billion of them.

The surface has howlers, lots of howlers.
And flying things, some people call them Demons, I call them [censored]es.

The last ammo vendor is before black station, its after "child". Just run through the library, Librarians are bullet sponges.
Then when you are in the church, pick up as much as you can.

I was hoping the church had a vendor. Because they didnt have near enough ammo. I still had around 150 military grade rounds. Maybe I should just equip those and blast my way through lol

After D6 you dont need much ammo. But I dont think 150 rounds will be enough, good luck.

You aren't supposed to stare at them. As for me, I didn't have much of an issue blasting through them. Shotguns, mate. Shotguns.

Actually, I've read a few articles that if you do stare at them without stopping, they back off.

Yes. Now that you say it, you are correct. Again, I do not follow the rules.

Volt driver > Shotguns.

High damage, and cheapest ammo in the game. All you need to do is charge it up (and have the ranger dlc).

Sadly the (second half of the) book isn't as fun as the game.

But if you have the Ranger DLC, you have the auto shotgun!

I got metro 2033 for christmas. Beat it on Ranger Mode Easy and Very hard. Amazing game looks great on full graphics. Had no problems with anything. Except the Nazi's.
Spoiler
I tried to get the good ending for the dark ones by not killing any nazi's or anything.
