Google Expands Tracking on Sites

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:12 am

Google Inc. said it will track users' activities across nearly all of its services,
and that in many cases, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203806504577181371465957162.html

Search, gmail and youtube collect what you search for get email about and watch on youtube so they can target ads directly to your 'tastes'.
In other words you cannot escape yourself.

I already feel violated when I go to a website 1000 miles away and the only ads I see are my local area ones.
I resent seeing that 50 free ipads are given out in my town (pop:200) and there are 'hundreds' of model like girls just dying to have six with me. It's so fake that I now I NEVER click on ANY ad regardless of content.

Any one else feel like they are being boxed in?

Corporate America, "We watch your every move! Just so we can sell you a [censored] useless gift card!"

Martyr, yep, I believe that's gotta be fun. porm everyday at work? Sounds fun, oh wait, that already happens.

Also, when I first saw this I thought "Oh [censored], I'm going to have a guy or girl watching me watch porm."

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/updating-our-privacy-policies-and-terms.html

All they are doing is treating people who have a google account as a single person (which they've always been able to do). Disabling personalized ads is still a trivial matter of going into http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacy/tools.html (that no one ever has heard about despite Google publicizing it every year for Data Privacy Day) and opting out.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/beef-taco-targeted-advertising/ (if you don't use Firefox, the keywords you're after are "targeted advertising opt out"), http://www.ghostery.com/. There's more stuff you can do, but that should be enough to greatly reduce the amount of tracking.
