How can I get better sound on my 360?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 12:30 pm

I was hoping I could get some advice from audiophiles or people who have a similar setup.

I use my 360 on a PC monitor, so to get sound I hook it up to a mini system and use headphones (Sennheiser EH 250). The problem is either the 360 or the headphones don't handle directional sound very well. When there's a sound over to my left or right it only comes through the left or right channel and sounds like it's right in my ear. If you listen to something on your ipod and pull out one of the ear pieces it sounds like that. It's really annoying. The sound and music are great otherwise, it's just that problem with the directional sound.

So what can I do to improve that? Hooking speakers would be the solution but it's not practical where I have the 360 set up. So would some other headphones be better? I have tried with two or three different sets and get the same thing, but maybe directional sound headphones would be better. I've been told to get directional sound you need multiple speakers placed around you, so would directional sound headphones actually be any better?

I've also tried plugging the headphones right into the 360 so bypassing the mini system both with the VGA cable and the 360 audio adapter that I use when I hook up HDMI, and it still does it so it doesn't seem to be the mini system which is nearly twenty years old.

I'd really appreciate any opinions or suggestions especially if you also use headphones and if you get the same effect (on Skyrim since it seems worse on that particular game). Or if you use headphones but don't get that what brand and model are they?

Many thanks everyone.

Too expensive and if I'm to be completely honest then they are extremely overrated.

Depends what ones you go for, I got my friend a pair for £30-35.
I just know they're good for enhancing the sound of games, said friend can hear me coming a mile away on CoD so they'd be useful for FPS and the like because of the step up you get.

The ATH AD700 headphones are generally considered very good for gaming. However, the problem might not be a specific pair of headphones, they may all svck to you. A diaphragm pressed up against each ear can only do so much.

I'm going with one of these. Looks like it might do the trick.

I have the Turtle Beach X12's which were only $60 (the price of a game) and they sound pretty darn good.

I have a generic headset that cost me $25 dollars that, to me, sound just as good as the Turtle Beach headphones my friend has. I can use the mic on the headset to work with the 360 using a special adapter that converts the 3.5mm mic jack.
