Questions from someone desperately wanting to play

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 5:07 am

Due to several complications, I won't be able to get skyrim for another few months. :cryvaultboy: I'm dying inside, I want to play so damn much.

I want to make a character loosely based off of Drizzt Do'Urden. I'm thinking of making a breton w/ Light armor, archery, alchemy, 1hand weapon, and whatever else would be my "main" skills that will be leveled up.

Are there shortswords in the game? There seems to be a lack of info on UESP.
I'm a fan of the smaller (but not to small, like a dagger) because of the realism factor (easier to navigate movements), but if its not in game I'll probably use dual swords. Possibly Sword/Dagger (Entreri Style!) If i decide to make a more stealth oriented character.

Is it "realistic"? ie: no over the top moves (twirling kind of irks me). I like a measure of realism in a game as immersive as the TES series. Is it still reasonable that someone could do the moves IRL (with enough practice of course)

Thanks for the time to respond, I'm miserable. I want to play it So So So much.

How do you get the Nightingale armor? Do you have to be a part of the DB or Thieves guild? I assume since its so sinister looking. No specifics please, just want to know if I have to be apart of a certain faction to get it.
UESP has it listed as the second best light armor after the Guild Masters. Is that tied to a certain faction two? Seems like it would be with the name. Also, anyone have a screencap of it? I'd like to see what it looks like.

Skyrim is a pretty great game, it seems overwhelming at first but then you start to play and it get's better. You find armour randomly in dungeons and caves, same goes for weapons. In the beginning, you can just craft your own stuff which will last you for quite a while, depending on if you want to go heavy, light, or cloth. Weapons are extremely varied and are all over the place. Check shops in different towns, trade with the random traders on the roads, etc. You also get enchanted weapons and armour quite frequently from quests.

I play a stealth oriented character too, first this is: You cannot only rely on a bow, you run extremely slow while a bow is notched but bow attacks are very powerful. I wouldn't bother planning out perks because I did and realised that, I never use the skills I planned for. Or at least, they don't level up very much. Dragon shouts and questlines are the only thing I'm still overwhelmed with, I haven't even been to High Hrothgar and that's like the 3rd main quest. This is because there are A LOT of distractions, dungeons are ALWAYS worth looting, EVERYONE (almost) has a miniquest for you, it's just awesome. Currently I'm working on the Thieves Guild and other random quests, but I also get distracted in the cities because they are so interesting.

Dragon shouts have a simple concept... Do a ruin (you can tell which kind have the word walls in them by the icon on the map) and learn a word, wait till you kill a dragon, spend your soul, repeat. I only have 2 words learned but It's not like I use them anyway, being a stealth character.

Most importantly, just go with it, I've decided the way I'll have the most fun is to just play. No "I'm going to do this and this and this, IN THAT ORDER". I make a general goal (reconstruct the Thieves Guild) and while I work on it, do whatever else interests me.

Good luck when you get the game! It's awesome!

While the guy above me has written a very lovely post, I can't help but notice that he doesn't actually answer your questions.
Shortswords are not in the game, some of the animations are a little over the top but not too bad, and Nightingale armor is linked to the thieves guild I believe.
