How does dual wield actually work?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:02 pm

Been playing a few days and experimentIng with single and DW one-handed. When DWing, left click swings with the right hand and right click swings left...but they swing at the same speed as if I were sword and board.

As I fight DW, do I alternate left and right swings or what? Because it seems that just left-clicking does the same damage. I know that holding both does the double power attack, but is that the only actually damage benefit DW conveys? Because it seems like I still just swing one at the time...preferably the strongest weapon....just holding the the other for "show".

No, I believe there is a much lower delay if you swing both weapons constantly then if you were to swing only one weapon. It also depends if you are using a dagger, sword, mace, or axe as each of the weapons have their own varying speed.

Clicking both at the same time executes a scissors attack.

You are doing weapon damage out of both hands. You will hit with whatever weapon strength is in that hand. So basically you do twice the damage as someone going 1 handed, though you cannot block at all.

You can only dual attack by swinging both at the same time. I was hoping for fast alternating attacks, like how dual wielding in most games is handled, but it's really just as slow as one weapon.

So the only way to actually utilize the increase damage of DW is to tap M1+M2 at the same time over and over? If so, the what's the point of being able to choose a left or right attack if there's no DPS benefit?

Weakness to fire poison + soul trap enchant on one
Fire damage poison + stamina drain enchant on the other

This is assuming you can put a poison on each, which may very well not be the case. Still, that's the main use, different effects.

The only way to have DW be useful seems to be having the DW perks. The Flurry perk increases the weapon swing up to 35% at level 2, and the DW Savage Strike (or w/e the dual-wielding power attack perk is, after Flurry) does +50% damage. So basically when you dual wield you get 2 benefits: faster weapon swing and a devastating power attack.

I felt the same way as you, but you just need to get all of the power attack perks and the DW perks, then dual-wielding becomes AMAZING, dare I say OP.

Oh there is also the benefit of more enchantments, up to 4 enchantments at your disposal with the Master Enchantment perk.

Sadly it is not, and I hope they fix this. And if they don't, well, mods to the rescue!

Makes sense, but I guess the question remains: do you just tap both attack buttons simultaneously for the rest of your DW career or alternate or what?

I love dual wielding. As soon as I saw it was included I knew I would go that route. The only thing better than an axe, is TWO axes. :hubbahubba:

Dual wielding rocks. I just wish the dual wield stance was a little less awkward and they'd make a better sheath (crossed on the back anyone?)

im rolling a warrior with DW, im lvl 27 now and this is what i have gotten from it, DW does not really take off untill you get duel savagry, once you get that perk your damage sky rockets. in addition since you dont have a shield you really need to spec into either heavy armor or light armor depending if you want to play a stealth person, in attition to that to make duel wield even more OP you need to spec all the way into enchanting for extra effect.
MH soul tap+ life Steal
OH fire damage+(some other damageing effect)

on top of that if you are looking for damage output daggers cant be beaten, i use swords i like them more, as for not being able to block i think that is BS im hopeing some1 come out with a mod that makes it so when you click it alernates between MH and OH and holding it does a power attack while right clicking will let you parry attack, not black but perry

Dual wield allows for much faster attacks with perks and the power attack rocks. Also you can have two different types of weapons ready, sword for creatures and mace for armored enemies etc.
