Age of Empires was the first game I have ever played and that nearly put tears in my eyes.

I still think that Ensemble Studios(RIP) is and will always be the greatest maker of RTS games. I have played every game they made and not one of them was bad, actually the only one that I wouldn't consider a complete masterpiece is Halo Wars.

The best strategy games out there in my opinion are Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4. Now in another branching genre of the pure strategy genre called Real Time Strategy or RTS for shorts my favorite would have to be Age of Empires 2.
