Post » Sun May 13, 2012 4:22 pm

Ok so a few things first of all i can't buy it right away but im getting a idea since i well be buying a good laptop. Now i have a favor to ask of everyone who has good knowledge of PC specs. If you could go to a website customize a laptop for gaming and i'm looking for a little overkill here around 3K and let me know specs would be much appriciated :D

A laptop is not a PC.

Alienware do custom laptops and have everything you need to customize right there on the site.
Just pick a starting model and follow the customize link.

Just remember to get a cooling stand because them things get hot hot hot.

A laptop is not a PC.

You need to broaden your definition. Desktops, laptops and Macs are all PCs.

IMO - Most new phones and tablets would also fall under the "personal computer" designation.

To the OP: While there are laptops that do gaming better then other laptops, no laptop will compete with a good desktop. For myself I would only game on a full system. Being able to upgrade the graphics card is to important to me.

Laptops have design choices based around saving power and space both of those considerations go against speed.

I have heard good things about Alienware however if a laptop is needed for other reasons like portability. A machine that will game well will also get much less battery time and be heavier. Be prepared to always be looking for power sockets.

With 3k you could do both, make a decent gaming rig and buy a low end, but decent, laptop for portability.

Without knowing specifically what needs you would have beyond (I am assuming) playing Skyrim it would be not so easy to make recommendations for specific hardware.

^ Eeverything he said. Also, you have to think of other things, yes, this is a Skyrim forum, and yes, you may very well want to play skyrim above everything else right now. But what will you use your PC for after that? 3k is quite an amount of money if you ask me.
I also think you're better going with a desktop PC if it's for pure gaming, plus it will be cheaper than a good gaming laptop, and it will offer you better results.

I personally would stay far away from Alienware. Too much money for what you get.

This is how I did it, built a ultra high end desktop that can max any game out there and bought a cheap laptop for school/work. And I still got under $3,000 spent (if you dont include my monitors)

Laptops designed for gaming are usually bulky, have low battery life and are just annoying to move around altogether.

PCGamer has a nice selection for a desktop good gaming PC under $1500. Unless you really need a laptop. Laptops cost more money to get you the same amount of power that a desktop PC has, and they can't be upgraded, which is not ideal.

I really wouldn't get a laptop for gaming. A desktop is much better, really

A laptop is not a PC.

Yes it is.

Although a desktop would be better for gaming. That being said - I have yet to find a game my laptop can't run on max. Although admittedly my max res is 720p - at 1080p I reckon it wouldn't be able to handle it.

And space is at a premium. Which means less airflow, and generally more chance of overheating.
