Do you have to be stealth based character to get through the dark brotherhood quest line?

Could a pure mage go through it or pure melee?

I can't say from experience in skyrim, I've not started that chain.

But in oblivion you could finish the contracts however you wanted, you just received a lower reward
for not doing it in a specified way.

I'm nearly finished with the questline. From my experience, you can do them however you want for the most part, but playing it stealthy is a lot easier than going in all Rambo.
