Is Buying a House worth it

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:16 am

Hello All

This is my first post so please do bash me if i mess it up. I have joined the Companions in Whiterun and have become a member of the Circle, my question is do i need to buy the empty house in Whiterun or can i use the Companion HQ as a place to store all of my gear. If so are all the containers secure and is there a particular one i should store my suff in. ```` Mr Kdub 123

I believe having your own house is the only way to get safe containers. Any other are not safe.

I don't know anything about the companions, but as for the topic question, yes. Houses are VERY helpful to change gear and store your loot, and it's a good idea to have houses in most major cities.

If you go to the mage college you get a room with storage.

Spoiler
Once you beat it, you get the arch mage quarters

So, buying a house is pointless.

The only reason why I'd say it isn't is that you can't seem to set it as your 'home', and you want to keep tabs on your romanced partner. I was going to use the arch-mages place but I couldn't set it, only the Whiterun house.

Kind of blows, I like being arch-mage and it made more sense since my partner is Onmund, but meh.

Probably the main reason is for storage. As most people know you can store you stuff in most any container and generally it is persistent, though that could always end up being changed with a patch, so if that were to happen then owning a house would definitely be the only safe place to store extra stuff. Before I bought my house I was storing my stuff at the Companion Building, in a chest there, it never disappeared on me.

Aside from storage, there is no real reason to have a house yet that I've come across. So far I only have the Whiterun house, maybe the houses in other cities do something a little different. I do feel that I should be able to fast travel straight to my house though. Would at least make having the crafting tables in your house a little more useful, since then you could just fast travel straight there and not have to navigate the city at all.
