Weird texture problems

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:36 am

I am playing on the PC and I am wondering if anyone is getting some weird [censored] going down with textures. For example, Sven the Bard's dagger in Riverwood disappeares into his body as he plays his lyre and gyrates as he sings. Likewise the Jarl of Whiterun's sword goes through his wooden throne and sticks through the bottom. Now if this is working as designed fine and I can live with it but is it maybe a problem with my card? (gtx 460 on latest drivers)

Do you know what a texture is...?

What you just described is collision detection. What on Earth does that have to do with textures.

How would you expect me to know what you're talking about when you used the wrong word four times?
A texture is the polygon map stretching over items to give them detail.

Chill. No one has to know everything.

It is very hard (nearly impossible) to prevent object from cutting into one another totally in any games. Objects that a character wear are not part of its rig, but merely "sticking" onto it. There are so many animations for each character its impossible to make sure any weapon or armor (which could be any combination) will not cut into one another. As more objects are involved e.g. wearing a sword and sitting on a chair or sleeping on bed such problems multiply.

The plain answer would be "yes" it is normal.

Well, technically speaking it is not a glitch. It is somethng that game developers saw but cannot be solved without some huge complicating game mechanics. At best they can do is minimise it by limiting animations that will make such problems more obvious e.g making everyone sleep sideways.

Of course game engine technology has improved drastically over the years so who knows maybe one day someone will solve it.
