i know I'm not going to get like rosetta stone type quality video tutorials through japanese on youtube..but are there any free guides that let you learn how to speak japanese? i mean i'm not expect like, freaking fluent in 9 days quality stuff i mean simple like, greetings, phrases, maybe teach you how to read some kanji or kana? if i wanted to pay i'd just get rosetta stoned so don't link anything with a price tag please..

If you have an Android phone you can get the free version of Human Japanese, or you can just go to the website and try the free one there. The full ver. on Android is only like $10 if you decide to get it, but you won't need that until you're at the end of the free ver. I've learned a lot with it, and it has a voice too so you can hear how stuff sounds.

If you don't know them already, get a mnemonics book and learn all the kana and their stroke order, and do it before you move on to grammar.
