Was the perk tree a good thing?

Just wanted to see what people's opinions of the perk tree is. As for me, while I think it gets the job done, I feel it comes off as a bit too streamlined for my tastes. While Oblivion showed just how bad the old system could be, I feel the perk tree just simplifies things too much, and doesn't quite allow for the level of development that I have grown accustomed to with the series. It does a decent job of taking on the job that skills themselves used to, but it is also pocked with poor choices of perks that don't really effect the character themselves and feel more like they are there to assist people even more. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the system?

I dig it, but I am also fairly new to TES.

I really like it. Since it gets progressively harder to level up, when you do it really makes you think about which perk to get.

I like it, makes each skill feel more valuable and deeper then they did in Oblivion, especially the later ones feel apropiatly "powerful", making each skill point feel like a step closer to being stronger.

Streamlined? Each skill has about 8 or so perks. Much more complex than the strength, personality, etc attributes.

This allows you to customize your character. As a stealth player, I only need the first perk of one-handed skill. I don't really need the rest.

Perks system is much better. There are a few things that could be done better, like maybe give more damage perks for the destruction tree to satisfy the disgruntled destruction mage players.

People mistake "Steamlined" for "Different" a lot.

That being said I think it's a neat addition, but it does need some looking in to. Also I hate the word Perk and wish they had used something different that doesn't remind me of my friends talking about CoD.

It's streamlined too, in the sense that it's more straight-forward. I don't think that's a bad thing. It's also more variable. I like that not every character is exactly the same in this system just because all skills tend to go to 100 if you play long enough. In Skyrim you can actually start a new game and play a character that won't end up the same as your last playthrough.
