Which PS3 Game Would You Like to See on the Vita?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 1:00 pm

This is a question that has popped up in my mind on and off since the reveal of the Playstation Vita. During the original press conference in Japan, a few games they showed off were Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Uncharted (PS3 games for the uninitiated). Then you heard stories from developers saying that they shifted projects from the PS3 to the Vita within a month or two and Sony claiming that this is a rather simple process that could be done in the future for new games; games that could very well be released on both PS3 and Vita at the same time. IGN recently published its reviews of a good portion of the launch lineup, containing games that were either released on the PS3 (Rayman Origins, Wipeout, etc.) or of the same irk (Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Modnation Racers: Road Trip, etc.). Having real, full-fledged gaming experiences on the go is quickly becoming a reality, and the days of throwing your Gameboy Advance down the industrial shredder out of sheer frustration that you cannot play Super Smash Bros. on it is quickly becoming scarce.

And my question, dear forumgoer, is this. If you could port a single PS3 game to the Vita, which game would it be?

Personally, I would like to see Sonic Generations on the Vita. It is superb, with great throwbacks to my days of playing Sonic games as a child. Paired with a bunch of extras (including the original Sonic the Hedgehog), great diversions, and a decently sized story mode, I think the game would be a perfect fit. I got the game for Christmas, but it has unfortunately been overshadowed by my other gifts and Skyrim, chiefly due to the fact that my eyes can't keep track of what's going on. The 3D portions don't give me too much trouble, but during the 2D portions I am trying to focus on the breathtaking visuals, running, and dodging at the same time. And it just becomes a jumbled mess. So I think it would be a great addition to the Vita library, and a good way for me to be able to take in the action with the smaller screen.

But which game would you pick?

Valkyria Chronicles, I guess, seeing the sequels are PSP games.

But I'm not really interested in portable gaming, at least 95% of the time I've been playing on my DS, I've done so at home. And if I'm home I may as well play on a console and enjoy the large screen and better sound.

I honestly wish that the 3DS and Vita market would just vanish, so more japanese developers would focus on the console gaming rather than the handheld gaming. I'm annoyed that the Suikoden game released in Japan last week is a PSP game, and not a console game.

I'd like to see original titles and not ports or console sequels.

That won't ever happen in Japan. Handheld gaming is big there.

For me one game I would like is Tekken 6, or maybe a sequel, since I tried it not that long ago and was better than I thought it would be.

Millions of commuters play handhelds on their trips to work or home, your wish is so impractical.

Morrowind, Oblivion, possibly Skyrim.

Yes, I considered those in my thoughts. But if you think about it, the screen would be too small to handle all of the UI in the games and still be legible. Maybe if they optimized it somehow...

Many Japanese developers are on handhelds specifically because home consoles are so expensive to develop for (which is only going to be worse next generation) and anything less than AAA generally releases to poor reviews and sales. What they should have done was keep the video out feature from the PSP-2000 and later, allowing people to sync a PS3 controller and play on their TVs.

Anyway, there's nothing that I'm really dying to see ported (mostly because I have a PlayStation 3 already), but I suppose I'd also say Valkyria Chronicles, if only to give the game another run of sales.

Other platforms? Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System ported to Vita (and PlayStation 3) would be nice, similar to what they're doing with Final Fantasy X.

Let's see if all of my practice in Necromancy has paid off...

Anyways, I thought of another game that I think might make a good fit. Portal. It doesn't matter which one, but each is relatively small in file size and have simple graphics, making it a seamless transition. Not to mention the applications that the Vita provides. My imagination in these matters is a bit sparse, but perhaps you can use the touch screen to pinpoint exactly where you want the portal to go, without wasting several precious minutes trying to get the portal in the right place. Then you can use the back pad for jumping (all of this optional, of course) and you can use the accelerometer while picking up objects. The great checkpoint system also makes it great for pick up and go playing. :)

Wow, I have honestly never heard of that series before. Though it could be that I can't be bothered with any JRPG that wasn't developed by Nintendo...

Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

If it is a game on the PS3 then I probably already own it so I see no point unless it is some enhanced version.

Ys is actually an action adventure RPG but it's one of my favorite series.
