Moralitylegal issues

If I legally own a copy of a game, and the CD stops working, is it morally wrong to pirate it? I am pretty sure it is illegal, but it is not like you would be taking away sale from whomever owns the rights.

I'd call it morally gray personally. But I'd just buy a new copy.

Doesn't sound immoral to me. :D
But it's one of the common excuses used by "pirates". :P

If it broke by no fault of your own, I wouldn't call it immoral, no.
Illegal? Perhaps...

I'd call it morally peach.... (I dunno....I'm in a funny mood lol)

This is gonna get locked but it's probably never right to steal. Also remember the days when you could scan the disc and the company would send another copy? That happened with me and Alpha Centauri. Aaaaah good times. Good, trustworthy times....

Well, that's the thing. I know all the excuses they make, but on the other hand I already payed money for this, and to have to buy a new copy makes me feel forced to pay extra for something I own.

You can copy it for your own use. But by distributing it and/or making a profit for yourself, you are breaking the law.

When my game breaks I take it back to the store, tell them it's broke and I get a new copy free in its place - sometimes it's taken more persuasion than necessary but still I got it.

Why doesn't the CD work? If it's the manufacturer's fault try to get a new copy. If it's scratched or busted because of neglect then I think you should pay to replace it. Not sure if it would count as morally wrong to me, but it's your stuff, so it's your responsibility to keep it nice and not just go for an illegal copy when you bust it. If someone else has busted it, then it should be their responsibility to pay for a new one.

What about downloading it? I can understand selling a copy or buying an illegal copy, but this involves no "sale", so I really am just getting what I already own from someone else.

Well, this is also the case of it having stopped working one month after using it without a problem. I was also keeping it in a jewel case the entire time it wasn't in use.

Discussion of pirating a game from sources other than official ones is not allowed.
