Fit for flickering overlay with amd gpu's

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:09 am

Roll back to the 11.8ccc drivers from august, these fixed the screen overlay issues for me and give me better performance, however the slow texture loading still occurs.

While this is not an ideal fix at least we can play it without worrying about having a seizure.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/11/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=11.8

hope that link actually works, if not search for the latest drives and then at the bottom of the page/driver details there is a link to previous drivers that brings up a page to manually choose an older driver.

hope this helps people actually play the game now. :)

edit: could a moderator change the title of this thread please to Fix for flickering overlay with amd gpu's, please instead of Fit for flickering amd gpu's, thankyou.

To fix this with multiple graphics cards, disable crossfire ><. A shame that you buy two graphics cards when the latest games are console ports that have never heard of such a thing.

The link worked, but the fix did not. Still have absurd screen tearing after installing 11.8 drivers. Sigh.........hopefully they fix this soon!

never said it fixed screen tearing and poor texture streaming, however I did say it fixes the screen overlay flickering issues, like the minimap, inventory and current weapon and ammo window all flickering.

you might try to override application settings and mess with vsync/triple buffering to eliminate screen tearing. My vsync and triple buffering are off.

Yes I also had that problem and the overlay flickering persists. I will mess with the vsync/triple buffering settings though.

Also used catalyst settings to override and I still get flickering overlay, screen tearing, and texture pop. I will wait for a patch. Thanks anyways.

That was one of the first places I looked. The settings did not resolve the issue for me. Thank you though.

I have a Radeon 6870 1GB card. Rolling back to Catalyst 11.8 fixed all issues except texture pop-in for me. I did have to experiment with the Catalyst Control Centre 3D gaming settings to get performance as good as it could go. Texture pop-in I think is going to have to come from id. Basically for that they need to widen the field of view from center for loading textures. So, it looks like it's AMD that dropped the ball here with the "RAGE" driver.

I can confirm this did work for me. I rolled back to 11.8 CCC drivers and tweaked the settings in the control panel to the designated ones. HOWEVER, I am still getting occasional pop-in and pop-out and objects flicker slightly if textures don't load completely. Not sure if this is me or the drivers.
