Spoiler speculation

Well, we have already seen how the Dragon companion looks. He was purple, this dragon is black.

And no its not Alduin I don't know where people are getting this from, we aren't going to see the big bad guy at the very start of the game.
He looks nothing like Alduin other than he is the same color.

correct, they wouldn't spoil the end boss for us that soon.

OR: it's all just coincidence orchestrated behind the scenes by Talos.

The dragons came because the civil war started. Dovahkiian got away because it's the beginning of the game.
Please stop making assumptions and read up on your lore.

The dragons are back to help Alduin to destroy Nirn, he does it every few eras and when Nirn is destroyed they rebuild, its pretty much a cycle.

I don't know much about dragons in TES lore but it would not surprise me if Dragons are inherently pretty selfish solitary predators. And as a result one dragon might decide his self interest is better served by assisting you. Course.some sort of blackmail or threat on your PC's part might factor in as well.

I think your right in a sence, I believe that the dragon screeched at the player to run and get away. Hey he push him in the general direction.

P.S. You dont have to put spoiler tags! we are in a spolier forums with fellow spoiler buddys.

Spoiler
I do not believe it was a random attack, I'm more inclined to believe the dragons arrival was to protect the dragon born, now some of you are going to say the dragon attacked the dragon born, that's not how I saw it, I saw a player that was getting caught in the cross fire.

This was the distinct impression i got while watching as well. I thought that this would probably turn out to be the Dragon that you can ally with later in game. When the player is sent flying by the Dragon, i thought it was just it`s way of saying "Get your ass moving..".

you are blind sir, in the politest possible way. that dragon is the exact dragon on the CE statue. whether or not that is alduin could be debated, though todd said it was.

I actually agree. They did mention that there are dragon whispers. Somehow I'm betting the stormcloak leader called it.

Spoiler
Since Ulfric has the power of the Voice, maybe Ulfric might be a Dragonborn and the Dragon was trying to kill him and not the player?

Unless my memory fails me, that G4TV thing in which they talked about the dragon that helps you also had short clips of two dragons attacking each other. One of which I assumed was your friend, and that looked nothing like this one. Honestly, I don't think this dragon was trying to help you.

I think it's far more likely that it was just a Jill and as Indalus said....

Regarding the discussion on why the dragon wouldn't go straight for the player if that dragon was there to kill the dragonborn, perhaps the dragons can sense the general area but not easily pinpoint the individual? It's possible it's one big coincidence of course.

I'm not so sure about that. I mean, the dragon at one point turns around and fus-roh-dahs the player at almost point blank range.
As far as I know, that shout is not fatal. I'm sure being thrown wouldn't be pleasant, but I'm not so sure it's deadly. I'm not saying that dragon is on your side mind you.

I think dragons attack and burn down villages sometimes. Perhaps it was the dragon you can summon later, or maybe he was just hungry. We'll find out, but to be honest I don't think every little thing that happens has to have some greater meaning behind it, it was probably a random attack that happened at an opportunistic time for the player.

Eeerm I think you'll find he pretty actuate lore wise as are you, the civil war is one of the prophised events to happen before Alduin returns.

Where did Todd say that it was Alduin, because I read EVERY little Skyrim snippet and I have never heard him even talk about the intro leak, so I say to you sir/ma'am....[censored]!

What tangled webs we do weave.

Incidentally, did anyone notice that Ulfric Stormcloak
Spoiler
has the power of the voice? It is clearly stated by an Imperial officer and he is gagged throughout.
In Elder Scrolls lore some of the Nords posses the power of the Voice. It's not the same as the Dragonborn though. I can't remember if it's a different, but similar, ability or if they can only learn one or two shouts to master. But they are suppose to be incredibly powerful, and wear gags to keep from harming others with their voice by accident.
