New Rage patch disabled cvar commands?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:25 pm

Ever since the new Rage.exe patch was installed I am not able to use cvar commands such g_infiniteammo. Anyone has the same issue and/or found work around?

Sometime this evening they managed to screw it up.

This is the first time I've seen Beth take an action like that. They aren't known for being very proactive in fixing minor annoying bugs. i wonder why they took the trouble to do this?

Think maybe id had something to do with it?

Well, I've never seen an id game I couldn't use console cheats in either.

I didn't dive into the console until after the patch but I don't see a g_allowCheats type cvar like Doom 3 had. id Software probably didn't want people cruising through the campaign and getting Steam achievements with infinite ammo, health, etc (to say nothing about multiplayer). I suspect and hope that all these things will come back along with a "cheat mode" latch that will prevent cheats from being used in multiplayer and "achievement-mode" campaign. Would be nice however if the cvars and commands that were disabled let you know that they were intentionally disabled for that reason.

Actually, in other Beth games (notably Fallout) if you use the console, achievements are disabled until you restart the game. i still can't figure out a reason they disabled them. it isn't like one could enable them by accident. it takes perseverance. Especially considering you have to do it each time you start up the game

How to reenable locked cvars:
Add this to your rageconfig.cfg file:
cvaradd s_lockListener -1; seta s_lockListener 0;

How to reenable locked cvars:
Add this to your rageconfig.cfg file:
cvaradd s_lockListener -1; seta s_lockListener 0;

does not unlock g_infiniteAmmo, g_permaGodmode, vehicle_God, or any other "cheat" cvars

But this isn't a Beth game, this is an id game. I don't think they're worried about accidentally enabling cheats.

Add this to your rageconfig.cfg file:
cvaradd s_lockListener -1; seta s_lockListener 0;
Are you sure? s_ prefix is generally for variables pertaining to the sound system.
